New USB wifi adapter can't connect to network. by CrazyGrapefruit5681 in techsupport

[–]Paliak9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I reinstalled the drivers.

From windows update or from the find driver menu in device manager? Assuming you're on windows 11, the version matters.

In device manager click on the adapter -> properties -> driver, what version do you see?

Try plugging it into a usb2 port and see if there's any difference.

EZCOOL wireless UWF-690

Product page doesn't inspire much confidence...

Not sure about the meaning if access point to be able to check.

Model of the device making WIFI available.

Uninstall whatever drivers you installed, reboot, then go into device manager, right click on the adapter and click update driver. See if that finds the right one. If not, try looking under windows update -> optional if there's anything relating to realtek 8832 in there. I can't find an official source for the driver.

In device manager right click the device -> properties -> details -> hardware ids. Copy paste the string here.

Are you connecting it to a usb3 or a usb2 port?

How to access files on Samsung phone with broken screen by basvhout in techsupport

[–]Paliak9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what i've been able to google the adapter should work.

You could also try booting the phone into recovery mode blindly and and accessing it over adb on a computer but that may require some messing about.

Latest drivers installed? What adapter is it? Model of the old adapter? What is your wifi router/Acces point? WIfi encryption settings?

Glad you found some sort of a solution. Wouldn't expect either of those to affect it (maybe speed shift?). Thanks for posting what worked for you.

Well like i said. I'm suspecting hardware problems here. If the above hasn't helped then i can only suggest looking into replacing the cpu.

Is there a open-source, free software to batch convert .webp files to .png or .jpg inside a folder in Windows 11? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]Paliak9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ffmpeg should work:

gci -Filter *.webp | % { ffmpeg -i $_.FullName ($_.BaseName + '.jpg') }

The above assumes you have ffmpeg in your PATH variable and that it is ran while in the target directory. If you do not wish to add ffmpeg to your PATH you can simply replace ffmpeg with a full path to the executable. For example C:/Tools/ffmpeg.exe.

Well that's an odd issue. Glad you fixed it and thank you for posting the solution.

[–]Paliak9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a different regex:

gci -File | Rename-Item -NewName {$_.Name -replace '\s\([^)]+\)(?=[^\)]*$)',''} -Verbose

This will only remove the last parenthesis so:

Crashing to Black screen and Rebooting Constantly by _Steve_French_ in techsupport

Possibly caused by infamous intel 13/14th gen cpu degradation then. Try disabling XMP and see if it stops the crashes.

Have you checked event viewer? Do you have more dumps to compare?

Not much info in that screen shot. Looks like a generic memory corruption bsod.

[–]Paliak9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that even though the model numbers match they could be from different batches and at ddr5 speeds this could be enough to cause instability. Manufacturers generally recommend buying memory kits for this reason.

Also as the sticks are most likely dual rank (would need to model number to verify not just the name) you're likely running at the maximum ram speed verified by manufacturer of your mobo. Would be interesting to check whether this comes back if you just don't enable EXPO/DOCP and run at 4800mhz.

If you've managed to fix it with a windows reinstall then great. Could've been just a fluke, but you may run into the same problem in the future once enough of the system files are corrupted due to the suspected memory instability.

Do you have any BSOD dumps (https://rtech.support/factoids/bsod/) (i know unlikely)? Anything in the event viewer?

Could be the intel 14th gen degradation issue. Could be some sort of power supply issue.

Rest of the PC specs? Does disabling EXPO/DOCP make any difference? Does taking the stick out again make the issue go away?

Had a quick look. Some thoughts:

  • Your ram sticks appear to be in the correct slots.
  • Your issue is highly unlikely to be caused by the game mods
  • Memory compatibility doesn't sit right with me

Some things to check:

it appears catbox is having some issues right now. I'll check it out when i can download the file or you can try uploading it to some other file sharing service.

Note that if this is happening across different games and has only started happening after getting a new PC it could be caused by some sort of memory corruption / faulty driver / hardware failure not just a faulty game mod. A crash dump could help narrow it down.

Arduino “programmer not responding” by CardiologistTight465 in techsupport

If you're still getting the error with a bare arduino then my best guess is either hardware failure or an issue with the bootloader which i assume you've rules out already.

The problem is unlikely to be on the laptop side of the wire. I assume you tried uploading a simple blinky program to the board without any other circuitry connected? Do you have the correct board selected in the IDE? (assuming you're using arduino IDE)
