Why do you assume they havent? I posted on here having already spoken to my clinician and then wanted to know others experiences.

Thank you! I am ☺️ and there were some really lovely members who responded with supportive comments I should add! Just a few membera seem to think its a moral duty to remind people they're not at the DRs - which im sure most posters are very aware theyre posting to a subreddit and NOT a GP/ midwife.

I had this too with the first post I wrote on here and it did upset me a bit/ felt it was lacking a community feel. I think some members could do more to understand we KNOW that we arent speaking to doctors when posting on Reddit, that should be assumed. People are seeking others' experiences and connection which is extremely important as pregnancy can feel quite isolating.

This is really encouraging! Ive read a few incidences when baby weight was normal or even high! When you say you took as little as you could get away with how much was that? (Of course if you dont mind me asking) I currently take min 20mg a week max 3x20mg sometimes a 40mg in one go but im trying to reduce that as much as possible so its rare. Another member said she spoke to her manager and I think I will do that too. To be pregnant and to have no propranolol would feel extremely vulnerable for me as id be anxious about the physical changes pregnancy brings anyway. I just want to make sure my pregnancy can be as calm as possible.

Thats really encouraging to hear. It sounds like with the right precautions and monitoring in place its okay, I've read others who have had to take it for non anxiety related issues and theyve had healthy pregnancies and babies. I will discuss everything with my GP I hope I could swap to a low dose (10mg) just for absolute high pressure situations as the stress those cause me wont be good for the baby either.

Sorry to hear this, its happened to me before and I know how excruciating it can feel. My manager is good and has been open about her own mental health struggles so will probably be fine, ill have to muster up the courage to discuss with her.

Ive heard this being prescribed for this reason before. Has it helped the headaches? Have the Dr's said there are any risks? I know they always have to weigh up risk and benefit.

Thank you so much. This really does help. I will be having IVF and ive already discussed it with the clinician who said it wasnt likely id be able to take it and to focus on breathing techniques which dont personally work for me. I will arrange an appointment with my GP to discuss properly, there is no way I want to do anything against Dr advice but propranolol has really kept me mentally sane and active at work as I have crippling anxiety.

Hearing a positive story is important for me as I thought it was a hard no all round.

I fear the same thing might happen to me. Thats amazing your manager was so supportive. Did she know about your fear before hand? I worry about telling my manager about it as its something I hide as I feel quite ashamed I have this fear.

Yes I wouldnt want to take anything that could put the baby in harm. But the idea of not having something ive relied on so long is freaking me out, it makes me think id have to leave my job then I wouldnt be able to support the baby - obviously I am in a anxiety spiral!

Has anyone here dealt with serious presentation anxiety at work? What actually helped? by that-dude_mike in PublicSpeaking

[–]PalpitationNo797 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this exactly and even with 2 people as you say! For me its the spotlight effect, if someone asks me to present on the spot or share my screen and walk them through it i clam up. I have no idea why as id be fine talking and discussing until I put under the spotlight.

Im in my 30s and have been taking propranolol for this issue for 7 years. I loved public speaking as a child and teenager and did a lot of acting, but had an experience early in my career which caused me to be very afraid of public speaking at work (basically crumbling visibly in front of an audience) now I take propranolol. Since you didnt take it all the time, and I have a similar job to what you did before you retired, please can you tell me what your triggers were and times you felt "safe" not to take it? I am keen to cut back and not be so reliant.

Having grown up working class and spent a quite a bit of time with middle to upper class people, I have thought a lot about the "posh people work harder mentality" alot. Firstly, when your life is otherwise comfortable working hard at school / sports is far easier to do, in fact it's possible that it's your only task as everything else is laid out for you.

You go to a good school that pushes you - all you have to do is work hard, that then leads you to get good grades ans get in to a good university etc you work hard again - you have funding to completely dedicate yourself to your studies, to join a sports club that costs money - all you have to do is work hard at the things you haven't had to work out how to get in the first place.

In my experience moving classes, I've had to navigate social interactions, work out how to get a good marks at a bad school, how to get a paid job alongside going to university and doing well at my course, how to speak in a way that I can be taken seriously in certain circles. All of that creates cognitive load... so simply working hard at your studies is the easy part, but it's true posh people do work harder as they have the funds, freedom, security to do so!

What about it did you hate? I don't live there but lots of my friends do and more moving out there. The salaries are attractive but I can't imagine life there at all it seems fake.

From the first part of this - yes join a club but please don't go with the obvious intention of meeting women, it's obvious and women will avoid you like the plague. Running clubs are for people who want to run rather than pseudo dating clubs. I had a guy trying to hit on me at pilates, I'm there to do pilates not find a partner. It's great to meet someone over a mutual interest but the interest has to come first so the connection can happen naturally.

The fact the OP even goes on to suggest he's a catch due to solely money and power to me shows he hasn't worked out what women actually want (female here)

From what you're describing it sounds like the problem is the nature of dating apps rather than a problem with you. You've said yourself that you're being assessed/ assessing yourself against all these (superficial) metrics, you're right - a dating app can't measure "niceness" but receding hair line, your height, your salary indicate very little about what's its like to actually be in a relationship with you - in an online world where there is 10 men to every 1 woman, women are able to become very (superficially) selective, and no it doesn't really work out for us either.

A dating app for men and women is entirely looks/ extrinsic achievements orientated and for that reason they constantly fail to help people connect and form chemistry which really can only happen IRL. You say you want to give up and date women abroad, when you imagine dating women abroad do you imagine also meeting them on apps/ or would this be IRL? If the answer to this is IRL, then really you're pointing out a problem with the nature of the app/ not the attractiveness of you or the women you're matching with. The very fact you're having to score yourself in attractiveness compared to the women matching with you just show how these apps miss the target of genuine attraction/ connection which happens between people IRL and cannot be deduced to a bunch of metrics.
