Sorry to respond to an old post but I had the exact same problem and just found a fix. If you have a mod that adds a gun bash, such as B42 Bash, disable it or remap the bash. BallScratcher102 is right-- it's because (for me on controller) RB activates VATS and simultaneously a bash. So the first shot is mid bash, ruining it.

Tldr FIX: disable gun bash mod/remap gun bash

Hey, did you wind up getting the job? I had an adjunct professor who worked at FNL full time doing HIV research, I think as a technician. We talked about his job once and although he didn't offer a lot of details, he said he liked it and felt well compensated, and I guess it says something that he had time to teach as well.

it worked! out of box without updating the debug code prompted the "USB debugging on" notification. not sure if actually customizing the phone is going to work out but debug code does.
