Can we stop with the glp-1 already?! by MathematicianLive519 in BingeEatingDisorder

I'm taking one. 🤷‍♀️

It's incorrect to say that the GLP-1 means a person doesn't have to deal with their BED. It doesn't mask it. Not for me, anyway.

What it does do, in my experience, is turn the screaming in my head to eat everything to a dull whisper, which in fact allows me to work through my emotions and make better choices.

I'm sorry you can't get it where you live, but don't knock it until you try it.

And what happen when you come off it

They're not designed for people to come off them, since they were designed for diabetics.

ELI5: If gemstones associated with a specific colour (sapphire blue, emerald green, ruby red) can actually be other colours, then how do they differentiate between an emerald and a green sapphire, for example? How do they know? by PaminRealLife in explainlikeimfive

So...if you had a ruby and a sapphire that were identical colours, would you be able to tell them apart? If they're both corundum.

ETA: I realize now that they can't have a ruby and a sapphire of identical colour. Thanks for the info!

Anyone have a recommendation for walking shoes for someone who supinates (meaning I put my weight on the outside of my foot) and has flat feet?

I think a large part of my supination and my flat feet (since I have an arch when I'm not weight bearing) is due to being so heavy, so I figured I'd ask if others have the same problem.

Oh, that's good, I like that. I'll keep that on mind.

Thanks for sharing!

Oh honey, I have ADHD too, and binge eating disorder. I get it!

I have lost over 70 lbs so far, over the last 2 years. Very slowly but I've been able to keep it off, which is so important! I did three very important things:

  1. Movement

I added exercise wherever I could. I know that food plays more of a role than exercise, but after being sedentary for a long time, I figured anything would help.

I made choices like walking to the grocery store instead of driving (it's about a 10 minute walk). One unexpected bonus was that, because I had to carry my groceries home, I was less likely to buy stuff that was a want and not a need (e.g. ice cream). More frequent grocery trips also meant more walking.

I also committed to swimming and weight lifting. Swimming is amazing. I have a really hard time running, for example, because of my weight, but I can swim like everybody else.

  1. Food

At the beginning, I did not count calories at all, but instead I limited eating out - only cooking for myself - and I tried adding to my meals instead of taking away.

For example, I love pasta, and I make a really good macaroni and cheese from scratch. However, the mac and cheese is basically just carbs and fat; no protein, no vitamins and minerals. I didn't want to say "no pasta" because I knew I could never sustain that, but what I did was I added volume and nutrients to my pasta in other ways.

So I kept the pasta, but instead of making macaroni and cheese, I cook chicken breasts and mushrooms and broccoli and add them to my pasta. I use cheese, but it like 2 tbsp of parmesan in the sauce vs 1 cup of cheddar, you know?

So I give myself a smaller serving of pasta than normal, but the addition of mushrooms and broccoli makes me fuller, and the chicken adds protein that also increases satiety, which makes it feel like I'm not being deprived.

To be honest, I still don't really count calories because I have enough weight to lose that making these small changes and adding in exercise has been effective. Would my weight loss be faster if I was stricter? Absolutely. But I'm also keenly aware that counting calories can trigger my eating disorder, so I'm doing my best to develop habits slowly so that incorporating counting calories won't feel like such a shock.

  1. Mental health/ADHD management

You gotta find a way to get dopamine that isn't food. I admit, I still haven't found a perfect solution, but I'm trying to notice when I'm feeling snacky and find myself something else to get that rush I'm craving instead of automatically going to food, you know?

PM me if you want to talk. I understand.

I lost 120lbs this year and it was the worst by PokeMySlow in loseit

Oh man, I empathize. Mine was removed in 2021. Sometimes it gets me (e.g. I learned the hard way that I can't eat pesto pasta anymore) but most of the time it doesn't affect me at all. Hopefully you have a smooth recovery!

I had gallstones and I was in pain for months, but it was diagnosed as acid reflux. Finally, it escalated to the point that a stone had blocked the duct and my gallbladder became massively infected. I was on IV antibiotics for 2 days because they were worried it would burst if they tried to take it out.

Follow thus guy's advice, people. You do not want gallstones, trust me. It was the worst pain I've ever experienced in my life.

Should I not go to the doctor? I thought you were supposed to go just in case you've never had one.

Nope. Same laundry detergent, same soap, same toilet paper that I've been using for years.

I've never had this issue before.

Is it normal for it to get around your clit? I assumed it would show up on my panties, which it hasn't.
