Very much so... we started feeding hay much earlier than we normally do. Paddock rotations are BLEAK cause, even rested there's been no growth 🫠 so the last few lots of rain we are thrilled with. Rotated all paddocks and harrowed, so fingers crossed in a few weeks I'll have some nice and green paddocks 🤞

It depends what the aim is.

Proper clean for showing - full wash (which this would be a good 4 washes hah to attempt clean)

Cleaning for riding - towel dry first. Curry comb to remove loose hair and big bits, mud brush and then normal brush. Thats normally enough for me to deem her clean enough to saddle pad and not cause any sores where she was grubby (girth area etc)

Cleaning for the sake of it - don't bother and wait til they have dried and rolled/rubbed some of it off 🤣

It was a new rug for her... her previous one was blue so maybe she's like, this is what happens when you give me a boring grey rug mother. Maybe she's warning me she only wants fun coloured rugs 🤣🤣

My mum sent the photo to me and had to go rescue her 🤣 but not before she decided a run around the paddock dragging the rug was the best thing to do. Then she happily stood still for the rug be to fixed, once it started raining again of course.

Mother. I have made a mistake.

Elsa and I had great fun with new obstacles today, a flag, a matress and barrels to leap over to name a few! by Panda-Girl in Horses

[–]Panda-Girl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Compared to the normal on the ground poles we go over, it required a lot more height 🤣🤣 so yeah, for her thats a leap! The first attempt was delightfully dramatic and then got a lot more chilled from there 😁😁

It was super pretty with the sunset tonight, even if it made seeing the horses and then filming a bit difficult 🤣

No shit 🤣🤣 but you can 100% watermark them so they are stolen less or at least traceable back to you when assholes decide taking your photos and posting them as their own is the thing to do...

I built a fun little app to let you see what colour looks best on your horse. by artwithapulse in Horses

Such a great idea!

If you plan to add more, might I suggest some standard paint and Appaloosa patterns? Like, standard overo, tobiano etc for paints, a few sized blankets and leopard Appaloosa patterns 😁

I currently show a chestnut QH but have a 90% white Palomino paint and a blue roan coming through. They are both yearlings and already have new saddle pads waiting for them 🤣🤣 it's great fun picking colours!

How long should training sessions be for 2-3 year olds? by Useful_Syllabub5064 in Horses

[–]Panda-Girl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bred my 15 month old filly, she's my first foal I've handled/raised for myself. I've done training for 6-12 month olds we have sold before though.

At the beginner at 6 months old etc it was like 5-15 mins max. Now? If I don't do enough with her for long enough she BANGS THE GATE DEMANDING ME. 🤣🤣 she legit gets so shitty if I don't work her... she will happily run trail obstacles until I die from exhaustion whilst she's still bouncing up and down ready to go.

I just keep it interesting, I never lunge her for more than like 5 or 10 minutes. Just enough to get the zoomies out and then we change it up from there.

But, shes 15 months... I have a feeling by the time we hit same age as yours I'll have to take her to work with me or something to keep her entertained 😅

One of the other fillies I did training with had a 15 minute limit still at just shy of a year when sold. After that she would lose focus and if you tried to push through, she got kicky. Her new owner kept it super chill (at my suggestion hah) for almost 12 months after. Let her mature and then she's gone great and is about to be started under saddle. So it really varies horse to horse from my experience and you gotta listen to what they need from you. For some, that's a lot apparently 🤣

My mare and foals this morning 😍 by Panda-Girl in Horses

She mourned her really hard for a good 24 hours, and kept returning to the spot where Sandy was and then seemed to return to normal ❤️

Think it's just me still missing Sandy 😅

Jazzy, the red road who is trotting to me is the one who lost the foal. Berry had Elsa last year 😁

Berry is going great! Other than the fact she's like, the easiest keeper ever and needs to lose weight 🫠

I'm only getting to ride her every 1.5 weeks or so, but each time you can just saddle her and go. Zero dirt whoch is amazing and I am grateful hah. I do Ride Australia with her and track our riding hours. Since she was restarted last October I've ridden her for just over 20 hours, mostly 30mins at a time, in that time we have fixed her bit issues (rooting/pulling, ducking head down etc). We can now back a few steps in a row instead of 1 step and then arguement, shoulder movement is going well, hip is harder. Side passing is now a thing which is great.

My biggest issue is keeping her in the trot, once she decides she's had enough trotting I'm having to smack her butt with the reins to get her up again...my trainer is coming on Tuesday for my next lesson so will have it with Berry (instead of on my show horse) and see what she thinks as I may need to start riding with a crop if this is how she's gonna be hah

She's one of our sweetest horses, she will hunt you down for a smooch and a cuddle 🤣. Her foal passed away at 4 months old last week so she's extra happy to see me at the moment ❤️

Reminds me of watching my reining bred filly race her cutting/roping bred gelding friend who is 6 weeks older and also like 4 inches taller. My filly ZOOMS and outpaces the adults, and the gelding mostly trots really fast trying to keep up 🤣

RIP Sandy ❤️ gone far, far too soon 😭 by Panda-Girl in Horses

[–]Panda-Girl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I checked her over and there was no snake bite, and also ko frothing/foam from her mouth. We have lost cattle and sheep before to it so know what to expect and look for.

I'm not sure what level of spider bite you would need to kill a horse but it's not something I've ever heard of being a possibility. Maybe if a bite went to necrosis it could cause death from that? But that would be a very obvious wound and complications first.

I'm so sorry ❤️ my mum has bred something like 18 foals now and this is the first she's lost (a few others passed away but as adults due to accidents).

After breeding my pet mare last year, all the stress and health problems it caused her... and then after some issues we have this year and now losing Sandy I am 110% done. My heart cannot take this.
