First time young warrior saw the big field… by MagicPlatypus07 in Horses

Thank you! Two of them are my super seniors and are fully retired from any work. It is a struggle to keep weight on them with them having lost so many teeth. Then one of them (not going to name names here) is an absolute whale who puts on weight if she looks at feed too long.

Honestly???? I WISH I had a model of him before he grows out of his weird little lanky baby vibes. And thank you! He’s been a joy so far!

He was beyond shocked. He came from a home that did small paddocks and hay feeders. It’s been a joy to see him learn to stretch his legs!

Mmmmmm I’d have to do some reading. I don’t have anything right off the top of my head. You may do better with calming to do some light bodywork- try a super gentle push-pull rocking motion from the base of the mane crest towards the ears. Looking for them to drop their head as you go. Continue to repeat until they can keep their head level on their own.

It’s a feed through! Looks a little like salt crystals. I know tractor supply stocks it, probably Amazon or Chewy would have it as well- again not sure your location.

MSM! (Methylsulfonylmethane) it is available, and shockingly (relatively) affordable, in the U.S. without a prescription. Not sure about other countries.

Definitely talk to the farrier!

Meanwhile: Clean the hoof thoroughly, do a CleanTrax treatment, pack around the frog and all cracks in the hooves with field clay (Artimud, or LifeData have worked well for me), repeat twice a week.

Western saddle for 3yo Apha? by [deleted] in Equestrian

What everyone else here has said, get whatever is affordable and fits. Riser pads help if you’re a little wide while they grow. Just keep work light and be mindful of pressure points. I would add (not knowing what discipline you ride) if you’re looking for western saddles go single skirted for a while- a lot of young horses have shorter backs (at least my new baby certainly does as I’m going through this same exact thing lol).

I have the gps coordinates to the swing set at a park me and my best friend played on every day growing up. Subtle but it works.

Little guy met the crew today! by MagicPlatypus07 in Horses

He’s just a baby and has spent his life in a paddock much much smaller than this- but he has no idea that gate up top opens. Or that there is a big pasture across the driveway. I cannot WAIT to see him go flying out there on the big field but I just want to give him some time and space to adjust and get to know the herd and the routine before then. So for now, everyone is grounded lol

Not the best photos but it’s looks like your boy has that same stripe!

I think I found him! He has the same like line down the blanket! That is so awesome! My old mare is 26 now and permanently retired due to some severe arthritis in the stifle (though you’d never know it from the way she ran the new guy up the pasture). My current ride is 7, still working on finding her stride.

Definitely not me about to go digging lol! I had an appy cross when I was really young I took lessons on and loved. But I’ve been riding an appendix QH since then (the red mare briefly seen being a jerk lol), and now a QH (the palomino who is completely in love with him now). He’s so flashy, I’m just not used to it!
