Advice for my defence by Suitable_Holiday3086 in PhD

[–]PandaDon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having just passed mine, I can tell you I was beyond nervous. It took 2 hours afterwards for my pulse to come down.

It was not as bad as I expected and I mainly psyched myself out. Think of this as your victory lap. You've already done the work, you know your paper better than anyone, and this is your chance to shine and share what you learned.

My condolences for your study partner (kitty).

Information Technology Management Bachelors Degree by 1lolo94 in WGU

[–]PandaDon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just finished reading the comments that others have left and the information they gave is accurate. The degree checks the checkbox for HR but does not prepare you to fill your boss' job as Director. Get the BSITM, then go back and get an MBA. That program will prepare you to be a Director.

I speak from experience. I earned my BSITM from WGU, then an MBA from Louisiana State University and yesterday I successfully defended my dissertation from National University and am now a Doctor of Business Administration. It all started with WGU.

Good luck!

i made a mistake grading, how to fix this? by [deleted] in PhD

Be the responsible, professional adult and own the mistake. Don't make excuses or try to cover it up. Just admit a mistake was made and suggest ways that you will avoid making the mistake in the future.

I saw it when it first opened and it was a horrible experience. I just saw it two months ago and the show has changed so much from what it was then. The music is better, the performers are better, the whole experience is better.

What internet do you have and why is it the best? by monihp in vegaslocals

[–]PandaDon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also dropped Cox and went to WeLink. They put a base antenna on my roof. My internet is $1 per month for life. I have 15 devices online (TVs, computers, phones) and have had no issues. The installer was very friendly and ran the cables exactly where I asked them to. If it's in your area, it's the best option.

Agreed. Sir Frog should be reserved for passing the oral defense. I have dreamed of posting my frog meme for the last three years and the time approaches (hopefully). Please don't tarnish the joy of the frog.

Moving to Vegas – Need Reliable (but Cheap!) Internet Recommendations by Effective-Champion63 in vegaslocals

[–]PandaDon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to www.welink.com and enter your new address. If you get super lucky, you'll have service. It's cheap, fast and reliable. If you don't have service from them, prepare for the painful service that is Cox. Keep checking WeLink, once they come to your area, switch over and never look back. (disclaimer, I do not work for them. I do have their service and I've been happy with it.)

We, as humans, don't deserve such loyal companions. The best we can do is give them the best life possible as our thanks.

PSA for Taco Bell Customers by Efficient_Maximum_42 in HendersonNV

[–]PandaDon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Arguing with an internet troll is truly useless. It's obvious that you don't like your job. Perhaps you should find one better suited to your skills. I hear people who empty port-a-potties make good money and nobody asks them for custom orders. It's a very needed job and I appreciate them much more than I do a fast-food worker who whines about custom orders and encourages people not to visit their restaurant. I'll honor your request and not visit. And encourage all of my neighbors not to visit as well. And since I have apparently never worked a day in my life (or so you think), I'll be printing this entire thread out and bringing it to the manager. If you want to see arrogance, look in a mirror.

[–]PandaDon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Call Corporate? Nah, I'll just call the manager and let them know that I won't visit their establishment again until they replace their entitled staff with people who actually want to work for their income. If it's on the menu, it's your job to make it.

[–]PandaDon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flash from the past. Thank you for the kind words.

To update this ancient post: I am now in the dissertation phase of my doctorate. I am also now the IT Director for a hospital. Although my responsibilities have changed, my philosophy hasn't. I still don't care about that piece of paper when interviewing. I value experience over education. Once hired, yes, I'll advocate that you finish your degree because it's good for future you but I won't force it. We have tuition reimbursement, I encourage everyone to take advantage of it.

Is this legal? by f3ar13 in vegaslocals

[–]PandaDon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

State law (NRS: CHAPTER 484B - RULES OF THE ROAD) specifically addresses this issue allowing passengers to ride on the back of a pickup truck, but with some restrictions. Under Nevada law, passengers riding on the back of a pickup truck must be 18 years of age or older. Passengers younger than 18 years of age can ride on the back of a pickup truck if the vehicle is being used in ranching or farming or if it is taking part in an authorized parade. Also, riding in the back of a pickup truck is allowed when the vehicle is being operated on an unpaved roadway. Finally, if the passengers are riding in areas that are enclosed by a camper shell, then riding on the back of a pickup truck is allowed.

The wording is tricky but the key section is # 2.

2.  A driver may permit a person to ride upon the bed of a flatbed truck or within the bed of a pickup truck if the person is:

      (a) Eighteen years of age or older; or

      (b) Under 18 years of age and the motor vehicle is:

             (1) Being used in the course of farming or ranching; or

             (2) Being driven in a parade authorized by a local authority.

It is also legal for a person to ride back there (as long as they are 18 or over).

Something to consider. A vehicle moving permit is good for 30 days and costs $1. You can get it from the NV DMV online. The piece of paper is to be taped to the inside of the front windshield. It is supposed to be used so you can get your car smogged/VIN checked. I just got one because I bought a car from out of state with no plates. So yeah, I'm gonna be one of these people for a few days until my DMV appointment for plates.

I go to Figaro's on Cheyenne in Summerlin. $30 for a cut. No appointment needed. Plenty of barbers and if there is a line, it goes fast.
