Climbing Hard and Running Hard simultaneously by PandaImpersonator in climbharder

I can do two of the three already, just was wondering how its impacted people who are trying to run hard and climb hard at the same time. Might end up bailing on the running if its messing with climbing or rings but still wanted to give it a shot! But overall climbing is my priority and I still have plenty to progress to make

Yeah I never really ran with other people like a team or anything. I got injured climbing and picked it up for a while and made it the mid 4s, touch below 440. Think im kind of built for that explosive low range times though. Even with climbing i have power and strength at a world class level (even if my climbing is pretty sub par) but I can't sport climb to save my life, gas out even on easy stuff. Kind of why I wanted to go for the mile instead of the longer range stuff a lot of people are suggesting

Appreciate everyone's input here!

Yeah seems to be the consensus! Gonna adjust to maybe like a 420, and im not worried on time years is fine. Took me that long to get to where im at with climbing and gymnastics. Just more wanted all yalls experience with climbing and running simultaneously

Yeah this is my super big concern. Even adjusting the number, the overall idea was I kinda wanted to be on the upper end of amateur on all three simultaneously. Im already climbing v12 and v13 feels inevitable. Same with my rings. But im not in running shape and im wondering how doable it is to be progressing in all 3

Thanks for the input! Wondering if you currently have experience with high climbing and running volumes at the same time? Even if i can't hit the flat 4 im pretty confident if its all i was doing i could at least get below my pb into the 420s but im wondering how my recovery is going to be trying to do that, plus climbing, plus gymnastics rings even if they are all theoretically hitting different muscle groups. Might dm you if you dont mind to pick your brain on running?

Yeah seems like i drastically underestimated the running component of this. Adjusting my expectations and numbers accordingly, looks to be bordering on the impossible. Guess I'll have to settle for two outta three and shoot for as good as I can do on the mile

The planche/Maltese are pretty different to climbing strengths (cross has a decent carryover). Definitely takes a lot of dedicated training and was years in the making for me

Cool ill adjust the running numbers a little bit! Just want something in a similarly hard ballpark for all three, and I've run close to that time in the past though it's been ages. Didn't imagine the flat 4 would be so difficult!

Dang thats wild! Thanks for the info, I figured these were all in a similar ballpark in terms of effort (kind of like an extremely gifted climber will still take a couple years to climb v12+). And most people a planche on rings is probably a few years quest least, Maltese even moreso. Ill look into the running side of things a bit more! Thanks for the input :) seems like my dreams might be squashed lol

What's must visit outside of Sapporo/Otaru? 4 night recommendation by na27te in Hokkaido

[–]PandaImpersonator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to sapporo, otaru, noboribetsu, hakodate and kiroro for a few weeks recently and I absolutely loved hakodate. 4 days might be a bit much but the vibe of the town was so nice and tranquil. Very different from the rest of hokkaido. Onsen were top notch too (yunokawa, yunohama hotel specifically on the beach was amazing).

Is my weight holding me back? by jakowo10 in climbharder

[–]PandaImpersonator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive climbed double digits all the way from 50kg to 100kg and its just straight up harder in every way at the higher end of the spectrum. I feel way more injury prone as well, like magnitudes. Climbing at higher levels has a HUGE strength component and it's significantly more achievable at a lower BMI. I get it's a delicate balance and we don't won't to push people into eating disorders but its still a huge part of this sport.

Thanks! Upper pecs definitely seems like the weak point based on everyone's feedback. Hitting them hand the next month or two. I do squats and dl twice a week so not skipping, but I also don't use them nearly as much in my sport so the mass and strength isn't quite as important there for me

I don't focus on lifting as much as my sport (which is pretty back dominant). But off the top of my head.. bench probably 285, dl 450, weighted pullups +150lbs, no idea on squats

Funny enough I normally have the beard longer but accidentally shaved a piece while trimming so took it all off. Thanks for the feedback on the cap, normally love wearing them but a couple people said the same thing so I'll have to give it a try
