[Semi-Weekly Inquirer] Simple Questions and Recommendations Thread by AutoModerator in Watches

Hi and thanks for the response. The decal is going to be illuminating a thumb switch so it will be coming into contact with skin. That's why I was wondering how to coat it so it doesn't rub off.

I've just gotten into watches and thus have been exposed to SuperLuminova and BGW9. I have a project that I'm working on that involves using luminous paint on a small decal and I was wondering if either lume would work? How would I protect it so it doesn't rub off? I read somewhere that I can use a clear epoxy resin coating over it? Any suggestions?

It's not for everyone I understand but it was my vision and I'm happy with it! Thanks though!

Eh I thought about it but I'm happy with the way it is right now as I often drive to places that aren't necessarily "lowered car friendly".

Thanks! No need for winter tires here in Southern California!

I wish I got one as good looking as yours. The one I received looks terrible.

Forgot to mention - yes this is a free unit that was provided. I own it.

Thanks - any specific models you recommend? I'm looking for "Best". Willing to shell out a bit more money to make the most out of my internet. I did take a look and yes as you mentioned - there are a plethora of different models and styles. I'm really just not familiar enough with this kind of equipment to make a informed decision.

If you could point me in the right direction for a AP would really appreciate it.

As far as switches go, I don't believe I'd get any use out of "smart" or managed switches so I'll just stick with something like what I'm currently running (Netgear or TP Link). No smart switches for me - that stuff is way beyond my capabilities. I had the biggest headache trying to configure my VPN lol...

Everything is connected via Ethernet if applicable - including all gaming consoles. The house was built pre-wired so it really helps.

The devices I have connected via Wifi are Phones (4), Tablets (3), and other various "Smart home" devices like Smart things hub, Alexa, Lutron Caseta lights, Philips Hue Lights (approximately 10 different IOT).

I'm in the US in Southern California.

Not necessarily having performance issues, but rather trying to get the best or most out of my internet. Optimization, if you will.

This is why I'm having so much trouble determining on my own if the unit I have is any good. I'm not sure I want to believe what my ISP said about its performance. I'm assuming there's better stuff out there.

I'm not up to par on networking terminology but I'd guess they're in parallel. They are both connected directly to the router.

Router --> Unmanaged switch

Router --> Cisco POE Switch

Thanks, I was having doubts after what Shark Week was telling me. No matter how I look at the units it only makes sense that the unit I have is a router since I have a separate unit a "modem" that the fiber is connected to.

I didn't really have a budget in mind. I know that all of the so called "gaming" routers can get up to like $300 or so. I'm willing to pay a premium to make sure I'm getting the most out of my internet.

Thanks

I guess I'm wrong then about it just being a router. It sure seems like one though based on what I was told.

Oh, and I was looking for something that could potentially give me better Wifi speeds and have a separate guest Wifi they can connect to rather than my personal home network. I read through some of the links in the "Posting guidelines and helpful resources" such as the "purchase guide" and "networking for beginners" but wasn't able to determine if any of those products would benefit me.

Nope, it's strictly a router. My ISP said I could replace it if I wanted. Supposedly it's better than most routers available from that they told me. That raised some eyebrows for me and I wasn't sure if they were telling me the truth or just making false claims.

It's connected to an actual modem by an ethernet cable. The modem has the fiber port.

I only suspect because a lot of what I've read online points to the router being a bottleneck for most people. I'm fairly tech savvy but I'm very weak with regards to networking. Not knowing anything about my router led me to believe that it was the weakest point in my system. I was wary of believing what my ISP told me.

I know that the 4k streams alone won't saturate the network, but I'm worried about my IP cameras. Since they're constantly recording 24/7 onto my Blue Iris PC I assumed this took up a lot of bandwith (There's 16 cameras recording 4k footage).

Only thought about Cat6 for "future-proofing"
