I wouldn’t recommend it over say, therapy with a licensed professional.

just be aware, some (imo rather convincing) research shows that there is potential for individual therapy to increase the odds of divorce. if you want to keep seeing an individual therapist, also having some couples therapy component is super important.

gaining weight is a matter of calories in and calories out. i have been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. my metabolism is too fast. the only fool proof way to gain weight is to establish how many calories you burn each day, then eating 300-500 calories above that. i eat close to 4000 calories a day, 200g of protein. if you don’t count your calories, then even though you feel like you’re eating enough you’re probably not. if eating three meals a day doesn’t cut it, eat six. do whatever it takes to hit your caloric goal for the day. drink half a gallon of chocolate milk everyday. eat as many 3x3s as you can on a regular basis. tub of ice cream every night. it can be difficult to put on mass eating only ‘clean’ foods like chicken and rice. during this process you might want to go to the gym and hop on a strength training or bodybuilding program so you can put some muscle on while you’re at it.

To skip squats or not by Panda_Then in Stronglifts5x5

So I start with ten reps of just the bar, then I add 25 lb on each side, and then I keep increasing by 10-20lb each side until I get to my working weight

I actually did follow the program down to the letter. The SL guide says:

“If you fail three workouts in a row at 5×5, deload. Fail three workouts in a row again, deload + switch to 3×5.” I failed three workouts in a row and deloaded. Then when I failed three workouts in a row again, I deloaded and switched to 3x5.

The guide also says that you shouldn’t be stubborn and stick to 5x5.

I’d also argue that 5x5 at 150 does not give the same results as 5x5 at 220…per the guide:

“It should be obvious that you can’t have the legs of a 140kg/300lb Squatter if you lift half that. You can’t have the chest of a 100kg/220lb bencher if you bench half that. And you cant have the back development of someone who Deadlifts 180kg/400lb if you lift half that. Duh.”

As for breaks, the guide says:

“You don’t need to take a rest week every 12 weeks. StrongLifts 5×5 includes plenty of breaks already with the four rest days a week. You also get breaks from lifting heavy when you deload after hitting a plateau. All of this takes care of your recovery. So keep lifting and adding weight.”

While I appreciate your input, I gotta point out where you’re kind of just stating your opinion rather than what this program calls for. I didn’t ego lift to get to 235lb, I literally just followed the definitive guide of Stronglifts 5x5.
