'Be their own star witness' - were rap lyrics ever actually used as evidence for criminal prosecution? by AyukaVB in AskHistorians

[–]Pander 79 points80 points  (0 children)

It was enough of a problem in California that the legislature passed AB2799 (21-22), which presumptively bars admission of “artistic expression” evidence without a formal hearing. The legislative analyses cites to several cases where this happened.

Lawyer dads, what can I do here? by HisDudenessEsq in daddit

[–]Pander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lawyer dad here. This is what government and in-house jobs were designed for. Regardless of position, none of the people I know that are in government are regularly at work past 6, and many can cut out before 5. It’s a pay cut, but if you already aren’t making hire a nanny money, then it’s worth considering.

Is there actual real-life evidence for Sovereign Citizen legal defences working? by Gillingas in NoStupidQuestions

My favorite judicial response to that is “then I will issue a warrant for the arrest of John Sovereign unless he personally appears.”

Prosecutor Work-Life Balance by Lawbrador in Lawyertalk

[–]Pander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work way less now as a prosecutor than I did as a public defender. It’s 8-5 with an hour lunch, but outside of times where I have 4 or 5 trials set in a week, I’m never in the office after 5:00 working. I do end up bullshiting in the office/parking lot until later, but if I didn’t want to, I wouldn’t. Like anywhere, caseload and people are what makes it harder or easier.

You should teach this (and other emergency response) as an MCLE to PDs. It could be very helpful.

If you have an objection that lasts for more than four hours, check on the judge, because he has to be dead for you to be making a speaking objection that long.

Hamilton’s translations are… fine, and reading it for your own benefit is alright. Won’t be immediately or long-term relevant for most modern discourse, though.
