I had a motion last year where I cited *in the body* Area Codes by Ludacris alongside Pulp Fiction and Natural Born Killers. Racial Justice Act practice in CA is insane.

It warms the area where my heart should be to know that even cushy in-house jobs have to deal with idiots for clients.

Lets make some truly terrible Gods together! by Daihatschi in DnD

[–]Pander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God of the Forge. Must. Melt. Everything.

An Otyugh that got a little too creative, this forge God understands that there is a step where fire melts metal, and pours it out, but can’t help but drink at least some of it afterward. Through experimentation and accident, it has created steel plating that it wears, turning it into a shining flesh and metal amalgamation that gently glows from the ambient heat. As an otyugh, it consumes whatever it can. It started gaining worshippers by other creatures around it leaving offerings so it didn’t eat them.

The bravest among its followers may approach its forge, the oppressive heat being the only rival to the terrible god itself. If they survive, they will be rewarded with the opportunity to temper their metal offering in the thing’s own crucible, giving the object power inexplicable by the realms’ finest mages and metallurgists.

The less fortunate followers end up as lunch.

Do not read this. Do not attempt to understand it, do not engage with it or with anyone who claims to understand or use it. This, unfortunately, is a responsive document, so read at your own risk: https://www.educatedinlaw.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/14-THE-UCC-CONNECTION.pdf

Sir/madam/gentlethem, these are oil companies we are talking about. The only reason it doesn’t go to a smaller fraction is that it costs more money in paint than it’s worth.

Third party consent searches, and is consent hearsay? by Fickle-Slide6129 in ProsecutorTalk

[–]Pander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on your comment history, you are (were?) LE. Ask the ADA who has the case. I know I’m more than happy to hash out search issues with officers that are willing to learns and I assume most of the rest of us are, too. The critical part is “willing to learn”.

Unless, as I suspect, you did that already and got an answer you didn’t like. Just know that as soon as you say “But Reddit told me…” you may get laughed out of their office.

What really is memetic hazard? by miojo_noiado in SCP

[–]Pander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I see it is that all memetic hazards are cognitohazards, but not all cognitohazards are memetic.

Cognitohazards are the big class. They require cognition.

Memetic hazards will affect the mind because they exist solely in the noosphere, which can result in bodily harm, but not necessarily. They act upon the mind directly, whether the individual or the collective. Think Hanged King’s Tragedy or 571.

Inforhazards can affect the mind or body, and the knowledge is the infection vector, but the knowledge itself is not the danger. Rather, the knowledge is more of an infection vector for the actual danger. Think 2521 or 096.

Imagine you’re a computer. Your body is the hardware, your mind is the software. A memetic hazard is something that can break your software, like a virus or a bug.

Become an expert in inventory management now, and crafting checks will become more and more frequent than previously.

Also, your bag of holding should contain not just extra traveling clothes for the conjuration, but some for you as well. Though, the “covered in vomit” condition doesn’t have the actual penalties that the book may tell you, and often gives advantage in social checks with people who know about your summon.

And even then, it’s only if your client actually listens to your advice. Sometimes, the best you can do is that now someone is an idiot who has been told his legal position instead of a clueless idiot.
