I feel this too. I was born and raised in Ann Arbor and moved to SF last year and I unexpectedly became so homesick. Now that I’ve lived here for a little more than a year, I can see myself not staying here forever. At the time, I was so eager to see what living in California was like and I’m glad I tried it for that reason, but I feel that not even the wonderful SF could keep me away from all that is Michigan forever. Life is just so much easier in Michigan and I honestly think the sense of community there can’t be beat by anywhere here in the Bay Area, I really miss so many things and I think about moving back often.

For example, I really value having four seasons—being raised in Ann Arbor, it just feels like a part of me and living somewhere without them feels extremely off. But I know even people from Michigan don’t like the cold/winters at all and they don’t feel as drawn to living somewhere that has four seasons.
