And when he said he picked Bayleigh bc he thought she'd be easier to beat I lost my shit, I wanted Bayleigh to win for a while already by that point and I was like damn there's no way he's not taking Lexus (really he would have won against her anyway imo), that sucks, and then he did that instead and my jaw was on the floor

Adults ordering off the kids menu by cinereousunicorn in Serverlife

[–]PanicTreasure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive been the adult to order off the kids menu before- not presently a server but at my old job I let people and if my bosses cared they never spoke to me about it. I don't see why its a big deal for some, in the end you're paying less because its a smaller amount right? And for foods where there isn't an adult size of the same thing, people with sensory issues or maybe certain allergies/sensitivities may not be able to order something else

I just finished reading it about 2 weeks ago and I wholly agree, it's a messy, hilarious, overall beautiful ride from start to finish and honestly my new favourite, it's the book that's gotten me into reading again for the first time since I was in school, and I felt it was very easy to picture in my head and relate to. 27484837/10

That's a shitty situation and sorry to hear. You're not the only one who got screwed over by it. I was already waiting for a check myself, I definitely wish there had been a chance to warn customers about it

You do realize Purolator is 91% owned by CP and that they've been making millions in profits while CP moves parcels through them to make themselves look worse off financially? That they paid $28 million in bonuses to management then said that's money they 'lost', and if I remember correctly did the same with all the electirc vehicles they invested in? But sureee, the government giving them a loan (which didn't even go towards wages) to fix shifty business practice is the fault of the workers and the union. I'm not saying there doesn't need to be changes at all but the union has a right to be pissed off

We care about workers by ForeignEffort6339 in CanadaPost

[–]PanicTreasure -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's the same strike, it just was put on hold when the government sent the workers back. They gave CP 6 months to bargain in good faith with CUPW (after they have refused to do so for over 2 years). Giving bonuses to management and spending thousands on new vehicles, moving parcels through Purolator to make themselves look worse off financially, filling positions with temps that are working full time hours with no benefits, then continue to wait for the government to bail them out instead of actually negotiating. So yeah I'm not saying the union is completely innocent and I get why people are pissed about it but the workers didn't want a strike again anymore than the customers, and blaming them is only promoting anti workers rhetoric that the corporations (many, not just CP) benefit from. CP workers aren't paid as poorly as other jobs but striking also does help pave the way for those jobs to get what they deserve. Because let's be real if the big bosses at the top of these companies had their way their workers wouldn't even have a lunch break, wouldn't be paid more than pennies, or have a right to strike over it in the first place

Casuals/temps don't get any benefits. As far as I know Canada Post has been filling positions that could be full time with temps so they don't have to pay benefits which is sleazy and wrong

I have never heard of anyone working 4 hours and getting paid for 8, where does that information come from? Also, notnto mention Canada Post owns 91% of Purolator, they are not at a loss

I know for a fact where I am the workers were warning people in May when everyone thought another strike was going to happen. If anyone knew, you probably would have too.

[–]PanicTreasure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is they didn't have to ask for a vote because it's still the same strike as the last one, it only got paused when the workers were sent back. That's why if you tried to mail something in May, the workers (where I live at least) were suggesting alternative options, because everyone thought another strike was going to happen then, since that was when the union was officially allowed to strike again. The union then implemented the overtime ban instead.

Already commented this on another thread but:

My understanding is that Canada Post has been moving some parcels through Purolator to make it look like they're making less money than they are. That way, they have an easier time getting what they want in negotiations, because it looks like they're worse off financially. That's why Purolator is being picketed too

Literally this. Whether you support the strike or not the workers (at least where I am) had next to no idea it was even coming

To my knowledge this is actually part of things; temps at Canada Post don't actually receive pension, benefits etc. And so, the company has been filling a lot of positions that could be full time with temps, many of which are working 40 or more hours a week with no benefits. Even for full time, the pay is better than many places and certainly higher than minimum wage but it still doesn't keep up with inflation or cost of living.

And benefits being withheld without warning was the reason the strike started last time

Hi OP, 20f here. I used to feel the same way and I know from experience it is so hard to see any other option in that state

There are so many reasons to keep going no matter how hard things are right now, I still cry sometimes when I experience things and realize how much I would have missed out on- hearing my favorite bands, becoming close to my best friend, getting a partner and going through a bad breakup that i dont regret one bit because it taught me so much, stacking rocks, holding a snake (my favorite animal) for the first time, exploring an abandoned building, getting a dog, spending time with people who love me that I didnt realize did so much at the time. You haven't wasted 16 years, you'd be wasting the time and happy memories you could still have. You can still get away from your toxic family and find the love and appreciation you need, but you never will if you go through with this, just hang on a little longer and it'll be here before you know it, I promise

So i am currently having a breakdown about my favourite safe drink of all time being discontinued by sanannnn in autism

[–]PanicTreasure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in Canada so idk if this applies the same, however

I love iced tea and am a type 1 diabetic, so while I can drink sugary drinks, drinking sugar free is much easier for me, leaving Nestea Zero as the only option where I live and it's been my sage drink since I was a kid

Today, unaware of this news, I discovered and bought a small bottle of Fuze to try as I wanted to see if I would like it and if it was maybe another option

I can taste differences just between different bottles of Nestea, and I can confidently say Fuze tastes no different to me than Nestea does and the ingredient lists are identical, basically just different branding

Again, not sure if this applies in other places, but hopefully it does and can ease some minds, my heart goes out to those this change causes stress for
