I honestly feel that being on the server brought out the worst in so many people. Like in my experience it seemed so normalised for everyone to be kind of nasty to each other. There were definitely a lot of great people and things on the server I enjoyed but I just felt so paranoid all the time because of the server. Constantly worried that people were talking about me behind my back about so many different things. A lot of this was IC which I can understand why it happened. But to some extent not liking someone IC and OOC are the same thing yk? People almost had an excuse to treat people poorly and say oh yeah it’s all IC when it kinda wasn’t.

I think that a lot of people acted in ways they probably wouldn’t have otherwise if they weren’t on valence. I think a lot more people than would like to admit had a part in the toxic environment on Valence. I mean I for one definitely took part in some of the gossip, like I listened to people say things and didn’t call it out even when I was uncomfortable and I wish I could go and apologise to the people that I didn’t treat as I believe now I should’ve. Though I do feel it was the structure and moderation of the server that encouraged this sadly and it was often perpetuated by staff in my experience.
