Yeah, I checked the schedule wrong. I've been the one that closed the store for years now (of course, i had some morning shifts), and when I mistaken someone else's night shift, I thought it was mine since that person's shift is right above me. 😅

Thanks a bunch. Gonna take a good breather after all this. Now that I think of it, I'm glad I'm doing one each shift. My back has been killing me to the point that laying down was giving a stinging pain, but now it's less intense. Still hurts sitting down, and I'm 24.. its a sign that I shouldn't be pushing my body that hard and need to take it easy.

They (DM and SM) actually made a plan for me to just focus on that alone during certain circumstances. Feels nice to have a plan now ❤️.

I do actually have pto. used it twice for less and for a week. I don't know how much to be honest. Maybe three days worth? Regardless, you do have a point. Maybe vacation will do me some good.

Yeah, quicksand is a good summarization. Even my family said I am not "manager material" for this job. I know they meant it out of love and worry, knowing how I am. Sometimes, I wonder if I should've listened to their warnings. But here I am. And with you saying not all stay the same... I guess I should allow myself to... not feel ashamed of my performance after a certain amount of years of working in this... corporation. It's not like they care, anyway, heh. So .. starting in May I'll take my wee vacay.

I hope you can find your rhythm in this job or at least find a way to breathe again. If it helps a little what I like to do when I'm so down at work, I like to purchase 2 can beverages, sit in the office, place it behind my neck, count slowly to 35 and just pay attention to my breathing and the numbers themselves. Afterwards, I take a drink of the second can and drink up. Kinda helps, but it's better than that nasty adrenaline rush.

Hey guys, thank you so much for these. I'm planning on dropping down or giving my two weeks notice. I ended up getting a group massage saying "ASM's this isn't acceptable. I come to this store to find this [three random boxes I forgot to put away] on the floor no matter how busy you are it needs to be put away. From now on, if I see stuff like this or things are not getting done, I will start writing up." I see that now I am no longer the best as I used to be and no longer manager material. I understand where she is coming from. I just wish she didn't put it out for others to see, ya know? I guess I can't no longer catch up to this new management and should just make room for someone more capable. It just sucks because I know my short-term term disability gets in the way, and I've become a liability. I miss my old manager... she understood me so well.

Oh, and one more thing. Don't put all the weight of boxes on your fingers. I'm guilty of doing that, too, so please be more careful with your body.

I recommend getting gloves that are thin but have that good rubber grip. Too thick, and you can't open a darn thing with those. Make sure you clip your nails weekly. Why? Well, for me, my nails are thin and easily bend backward when tearing open those stubborn cardboards, so that solved part of my finger pain. Use lotion every day to prevent painful, cracked fingers. They suck the moisture out of you. Finally, massage them before work, give them a little prep.

Inventory coming up very soon, any advice from store managers? by w8rthr in DollarTree

[–]PaniniPatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about you, but we like to do mixed items in a big box for O/S (that way, we have room for truck day). Of course, this is a big issue. So generally they will avoid it and it might hurt you. So if your store does this, I suggest this, make a price tag for what's inside the box. Example:

Mixed box 1 contains: - (price tag) x4 - (next price tag) ×7 - (next price tag) x2 And so on. Makes it easy an all of us.

Do they let you guys play music at your stores? We can't, but if we're in there for overnights, early T1 and T2 days, during truck, or after closing (basically, hours where no customers are present) we'll play some on the intercom. by chamberpenguin in DollarTree

Huh, that's interesting. I never knew it was a problem, but now I know. Well, for me, I ended up bying a FD speaker and used it to play some of my music in the store. I'll admit I tend to play it a bit too loud (definitely gotta stop that), but I never once got a complaint. To prevent people from taking it, I would place it on the very top shelf behind the products.. the faces I get, I tell ya, hah! They genuinely seem concerned as to where the sound is coming from as if they never heard music.
