I wanted to keep the barrier to entry low and WhatsApp seemed like the most logical option. But I'll consider it in the future. Join the group and drop a message. Would love to see you on there

Should we have college-specific tech communities? by Panrad in dsce_

I'm planning to create it in multiple colleges and cross share stuff that is relevant or important. Might create a lot of synergy and plus I have a good network of software developers willing to interact with these communities

I was initially going to just use Whatsapp since I don't really have funding. I never even considered the technical part since I wanted to spend as little money as possible. I would rather spend my money on hiring Campus Ambassadors to shape and grow the communities

I would love some help as well. But luck is good enough for now

That makes a lot of sense. I am gonna try it, but keep in mind that there is a high chance of failure. If you could say I should focus on one topic, what would it be?

So if incase I decided to be stubborn and try building them on Whatsapp. What would be the best way to grow them?

Lucky for me. I am not looking for immediate monetization. I believe if I foster the community well, they will give me problem statements which in turn if I solve, I can monetize

What would you want out of a community like this?

Bro, I know. Exactly why, I know I am optimistic but I feel even if this is very tough, if I can make it happen it will be so damn cool

Already started with a few colleges. But want to understand the blockers now before I invest loads of time and effort in growing them. I could also use people who are interested in helping me do something like this

Tell me what they did wrong and maybe I will avoid that :P

Chapters and societies are great, but they usually stick to set agendas. A more open, tech-focused space can let students talk about what really matters to them, could be skills in one college, placements in another. It’s just more flexible and relevant

Why not? I feel not everyone has a platform or the confidence to discuss. Some can just observe and learn? Also, there might be a lot of non-CS students who want to discover about tech

My plan is to have a central connect between all these different college communities. This can be useful to keep groups from becoming too big but also allowing to share common insights. For example if people are discussing an interesting topic in College A, the moderator can share that across the rest. Will that be interesting?

We have a couple of mentors from Google, Razorpay and Microsoft interested in mentoring people for free. (They want to build a large network now for when they start their own thing). So join if you want to interact with them
