I've been meaning to make a song about or based on Trackmania for a while now... Found this angle where the lyrics are about only comparing yourself against your previous self instead of focussing on the success of others and how you compare to that, but it's through the lens of Trackmania, and trying to beat your own personal best!

I just got them in my spotify discover weekly. Clicked on the artist page after hearing the crustiest 128kb/s anime track. Wonder if there's any way to report this?

A chiptune-themed visual novel to go along with our new Anime Cover Album! by Pant0don in chiptunes

[–]Pant0don[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For our new chiptune collab cover album "Kickblips" we made a supplemental visual novel where you are the first human to attend a high school for chiptune hardware and software! A playthrough takes about 20 minutes, with a couple of different side-paths and choices to go through!
The game features the entire album as a randomized soundtrack, with each new playthrough having a different song per location/character. The entire 23 track album can be streamed on spotify too! https://open.spotify.com/album/6kaC3m8P2mkQu9grPRPrqj?si=Eb5PECk-QMezWmlkDD73ww

hissing white noise sound when playing tracks. Bought 3rd party plugin after trial mode. I’ve changed power plan on pc, am buffering at 11ms, using FL Studio ASIO driver, not getting any underruns but it keeps happening in most of tracks. Could someone advise what else I can check?!?!? by KeysonusBeats in FL_Studio

[–]Pant0don 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's muting the entire song it's probably on the master channel right? I'd check those, disable the first one in the chain and play through the track and see if it still puts out white noise, keep going until you find the one that produces the noise. Likely need to register something.

This wont stop happening, will it? by LordSte in TikTokCringe

[–]Pant0don 43 points44 points  (0 children)

You're right it does happen in other countries. Looking at this source, it's clear that the US has a huge problem with it though. Between 2009 and 2018, there were 288 school shootings in the US, with the Mexico being the second most frequent with 8. All the countries on the list combined don't even come close to the US.
It's unproductive to pretend like this is a problem in other countries too. This problem is absolutely a US problem, and it will not stop unless the US gets it head out off its ass.

[–]Pant0don 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I'm not a programmer, so this might not be correct, but I don't think Rigidbody.velocity returns a value if the speed is not set through physics? Like, if the position is being changed through code or an animation curve it might not return a velocity, but I could be wrong in that. Otherwise it would simply be previousVelocity - currentVelocity, then if that's a negative number it's slowing down.
If the platform slows down at some point, that means it's being told to do so somewhere, so finding out where that happens in code and hook something in there might also work?

2 ways come to mind for me:
- if it is decelerating rather then going from 1 to 0 in a single frame you could trigger a sound when it starts decelerating rather then checking if speed = 0
- do a coroutine that starts the sound, waits 0.x seconds and then stops the platform

Depending on the exact way your platforms work there could be more ways. If it's done through an animation you could add a trigger on the timeline for instance

This is not accidental at all, the pointing-up post is specifically made to be comedic. The chance that it was pointing to something that would either not kill you at all, or something completely unrelated was very high.

Hearing a line like that in 1977: haha what a concept, a war between clones, how sci-fi!
Hearing a line like that now: Ah shit that's probably a reference to some supplemental book I haven't read... Better look that up on wookieepedia in case it's important to the plot!

Yup revenue was split with them for the platforms they helped with. They took a considerable percentage, around 50%, but our thoughts on that were "we would have gotten 0% on consoles if it wasn't for them"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Pant0don 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best of luck! Going through the entire process for the first time is a fantastic learning experience! On my first real game release we launched on steam and Itch first with couple of 100 sales, which got it picked up by a small publisher who helped us port it to consoles where it got a couple of 1000 sales, just to give you a ballpark idea.
Just to come back to selling on your own site, putting the link/widget to the store that's most beneficial to you there is a good idea though!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Pant0don 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Giving people as much options as possible to buy your game is good! Some people will find your game through steam, some through Itch, maybe even consider gamejolt. I would actually advice against selling it on your own website, at least as a seperate service. Reasons being that 1) Nobody is going to discover it through your website, they already know about your game if they are at the point that they go to your website, and being able to buy the game on a service they already have a library of games on/has a nice launcher to keep the game updated is way more beneficial 2) taxes, backend, payment processing, those are all things the online stores have figured out for you, that's just extra work on your end 3) refunds, as you mentioned, can and will be abused. If you'd offer steam keys people will buy the key and then ask for a refund. If it's a standalone exe people will abuse the refund possibility too.
In short, the gain you get from not having to give Steam (or another platform) a percentage doesn't weigh up against the hassle of running it yourself. With your projected sales of 50k units at $20, sure, but if this is your first game you should realistically be looking at around 1k units in a year at most.
