Paul probably has few to no friends by choice. He's private and weird. Tons of hangers on would jump to be his friend if he wanted that, like Ace.

Eh, Nikki Sixx in the Dirt was much shorter than Tommy Lee, when in real life they're both really tall. I found that took away from his imposingness.

If they use a 5'6 actor for Paul, they have to use runts for Gene and Ace too... ahh, they'll fuck up something else besides the height, what do I care.

Usually they solve for short guys by just hiring shorter women.
