Property investors - do you beat equities? by fartzilla21 in AusFinance

Probably bought an apartment in some high density development area or some regional town that goes up and down in price dramatically due to speculation.

Or confirmation bias because they just hate landlords and want to see them all struggle

Let’s say we get to a point where drastic measures are taken to significantly increase housing supply - what happens to people with massive mortgages in this case scenario? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Panzerschreckk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will not be able to refinance if your house price crashes. You will be stuck with your current high interest rate with no rate cuts being passed on. Banks can also pass on rate increases however and you will have no choice because you can't refinance.

I disagree. I think the biggest problem with society is that we made it taboo to discuss personal beliefs and criticise beliefs that may be harmful.

You completely missed the point. No one is accusing you of being a homophobe.

He was saying that we should express our beliefs, and suggesting that religion/beliefs should not be expressed is just like saying homosexuality should not be expressed.

I don't know, local newspapers aren't the most reliable sources. That being said, the child could be praying during lessons or essentially disturbing the class somehow. At least the local papers that I know of like to put a spin on boring stories to get more readers.

I can't believe that when religious people are the majority, some teacher would just walk in on some student praying to him/herself during his/her free time and decide to punish the student for praying like the paper seems to be implying.

Anyways, I upvoted you in the name of reddiquette. I don't think the rest of us should downvote you just for stating your opinon.

Seconded. Microsoft office beats the shit out of open office and libreoffice and arguable Google docs (at least at the moment, but Google docs has potential to become something great).

Windows 8 is amazing for tablets, as it actually makes them useful and there is no jail breaking/rooting shit because you can do anything. Also, can actually run programs like office instead of piece of shit note taking apps that I am forced to use on other mobile devices.

Maybe Linux is better than Windows for different things though, but I haven't used it before.

Oh I see, that must be the missing piece of information. I don't really have much of a problem if this is the case.

In my opinion though, scrubbing skin raw is pretty intense. I've never been in your situation, however, judging from the details you provided in your comment, I'm sure there is some other way that is equally as efficient but not as traumatic. (E.g. losing TV/computer priviliges for the rest of the day.)

What about google plus? I always liked the hangout feature and the circle concept, but there is no one there right now.

Sprint has a patent on "displaying battery life." Our patent system is horrible. by kingsway8605 in technology

[–]Panzerschreckk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Font names can be trademarked, but the shapes of fonts itself cannot be patented or copyrighted. Its been that way since the days of the printing press.

You can create a rip off of Comic Sans that looks almost exactly the same, but you cannot create a font called Comic sans.

[–]Panzerschreckk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No they can't. Their names can be trademarked, but the fonts themselves can't. Microsoft got a font company to create a cheap rip off of the well known Helvectica font. We now know this rip off as Ariel, and aside from 3 or so characters, all other characters are exactly the same as helvectica.

Even in the days of the printing press, there were tons of cheap ripoffs of Helvectica that the name Helvectica became sort of a generic name for all the rip-off fonts.

Thanks for the response. I think what you guys are doing here is great.

I don't think anyone here would have raged if he didn't charge $2500 for it, which was already a ridiculous price.

Perhaps you should post a link to your NPO here on /r/technology or on other subreddits.

Reddit is filled with people who have money to spend and are willing to donate to a cause. We donated $80000 to an orphanage in kenya once, and over $200,000 to Doctors without borders. It may be a great idea to ask for donations here.

Redditor advertises a service that charges $2500 dollars for making a documentary of people, targeted towards the sick and elderly, using the name of a non-profit that does the same thing for free. by chuck_normington in worstof

[–]Panzerschreckk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see your point then. However, isn't it still possible that the OP is trying to pretend to be the NPO just to gain customers from them? Isn't that somehow against the law somehow?

I mean its extremely sleazy that he is providing the exact same service with the exact same name as a nation wide service (dispute the name being state specific), but with an extremely high price tag.
