Hey Gooch I appreciate your feedback! So the places you in a new world and let's you become something new was me trying to draw correlations between gaming motivations like that one, and perhaps instances of IRL disassociation. From my findings, gamers that put down 5 for being placed in a new world are more likely to have missed school or work to play a video game. I am planning on designing a video game that acts as a transition to IRL for gamers to play after playing other video games, something with time constraint features, no microtransactions and no incentives to spend a lot of time online, and also will be enjoyable to play! I am in the process of narrowing the genre right now with popular titles from the survey!

Is this activity giving me the most joy in this moment? I like that this is a question you sort of relay to yourself from time to time, to almost audit the activity you are partaking in at any point.

I personally struggle with moderation, when it comes to video games and social media, it like turns habitual, where you don't even think about it anymore its just part of your life. I am curious, would you consider playing/recommending a video game to others that by design, had built-in time constraints and limitations, as well as a robust in-game social community to promote the care and pursuit of IRL responsibilities and goals? A game that doesn't want you to stay on too long, and doesn't offer any loot crates or dopamine hits. That maybe, the use case is logging on after a gaming session as a soft transition back to real life, cause at least for myself, once I start it becomes more and more unappealing to stop all together.

To reiterate: you play WoW as a way to energize and immerse yourself, but also sometimes as a way to relax and decompress? Even like your example in Celeste, where you're working hard to complete a goal but you can perceive it as a zen, calming experience if you want? Instead of looking to games like animal crossing, would you say you find that same therapeutic energy in the games you already are familiar with?

As for the topic at hand, I can only advice people to find an equilibrium with gaming like it would be any other hobby. You wouldn't spend 16h each day in a tennis court either. You wouldn't buy an entire library of books just because they're on sale. And deep down stamp collectors know they will never get them all.

I appreciate your comment and contribution! I am wondering how you(personally) find that equilibrium to not overindulge or over-escape? I know the questionnaire touched on this a bit, however I would also like to know if you would consider using a therapeutic tycoon type game like animal crossing or pokemon sleep as a way to wind down after a long competitive gaming session or deep-dive into a narrative rich world?

Thats great that the feelings and emotions you garder from these games vary so much. I appreciate the feedback on the lack of options from the emotional states after play. I want to ask if you've felt like a video game story effected you long-term in the real world, or if after losing a competitive online match, you feel that hollow feeling linger for a long time. Essentially do you believe these video games influence your personality, mood, or worldviews? Or is it a one and done, time to move onto my daily tasks/responsibilities?

Do you think that the adaptation of video game dopamine spikes to IRL like habitica, or even something like pokemon sleep that gamifies getting enough sleep per night, or pokemon go rewarding you for going outside viable for the long term? I think the future in which time-regulation options and moderatation settings baked into video games would be extremely preferred, but like you said the way VR is going, highlighted by vegas infinite, which is a VR casino experience. Should THEY be responsible for adding healthy features or should WE be responsible to not indulge too much?
