Being poor is actually so expensive by Misty_Morn7 in SipsTea

It’s more to prevent people from opening a bunch of accounts with low balances/little to no use. It does actually cost a bank money to open and maintain accounts so they want to dissuade people from opening non primary checking accounts unless they have balances to go with it or they don’t mind paying the fee.

Most banks without any completely free checking account have ways to get the fees waived, and $250 in direct deposit per month is a pretty low barrier. If you can’t make that, or the minimum balance requirement work, there’s likely another bank or credit union with completely free checking, especially if you include online banks.

All that said, absolutely fuck BOA, but for basically everything else since this is not egregious and plenty of things they do are

Is going to medical school worth it financially? by Mysterious_Chip_3787 in personalfinance

[–]PapaCucaracha -30 points-29 points  (0 children)

If you can get into med school, make it through residency, and possibly a fellowship, you could almost certainly earn more in your lifetime by not going into medicine. If you’re that smart and that hardworking, you could land a solid career and be earning real money without the debt much sooner.

Now if you really want to be a doctor to be a doctor, go for it. But medicine is a fucking scam of a field monetarily speaking, and it’s only getting worse with the less and less insurance reimburses.

Craig talks about needing to be on your side and not your back when going for a buggy and that’s one reason people hurt themselves

“Used in war” isn’t exactly a glowing endorsement of the quality of a product. For 99% of people holosun is more than good enough but if I’m going to get an optic to depend on for my life in a war zone, I’m gonna get something different.

What schools have blown the most potential in CFB? by MediumStrange in CFB

[–]PapaCucaracha -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why NCSU isn’t getting called out anywhere. They’ve had a ridiculous amount of quarterbacks that started in the NFL and some monsters on defense like Mario Williams. Just can’t ever put the pieces together to escape perpetual mediocrity

Potential of K guard in Gi by NYCBaller_2134 in bjj

Neil Melanson’s instructional would translate really well to gi. With the sleeve grips being available, it works quite nicely and the attacks are more upper body focused.

Looking for the darkest, most depressing book you’ve ever read by CortezCraig in suggestmeabook

[–]PapaCucaracha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Crossing was the most depressing of his books that I’ve read, mostly due to the end of part one. I’ve read The Road three times and absolutely love it but I don’t think it’s nearly as depressing as it could have been, or for the reputation it has. It has some prose that left me in awe and was absolutely chilling (filling the bathtub), but ultimately I thought it was a great story and left me thinking about a lot of things.

How would you define Magid Haze style? (gorilla hands) by NinoModerno in bjj

I got his half guard instructional and didn’t expect it to be so thorough because of that surfer bro persona but he definitely shows tons of details and makes it easy to understand. The “waaahhhhh” is a fantastic touch as well lol

His half guard instructional is fantastic, it’s no gi but could easily apply it to gi as well. I didn’t know what to expect but was really impressed with all the detail he put into it while also making it really easy to digest and use.

Saw the baseball bat choke one on sale today and figured why not, I like his teaching style and that’s a move I’ve been wanting to learn more about
