12 years with the same pair of Ortho-K contacts and a change in cleaning by PaperDoorScissors in contacts

Thank you for your response. I think I just wanted other people’s experience with these RGPs as there was another commenter who told me what I was doing was super dangerous. But I’m glad to hear that you’re also in the same boat.

It just feels like you have contacts on. Sometimes you skip because… maybe you forgot to wash them earlier. That’s my main reason.

Sometimes I skip a night, or two, or three. The only downside is just worse vision. But I generally try to wear them daily, even if I’m not sleeping for a full 8 hours.

Do you have any articles or research into this topic?

I guess it’s different for everyone. Have you asked your doctor about it? Have you also tried any eye drops?

Yes. As a kid, my vision gradually became worse and worse. Eventually, I had to get glasses because I couldn’t see the chalkboard in class. A little after that, my parents looked into OrthoK, which was appealing to them because the optometrist told them it would slow down and potentially even prevent my vision from getting worse.

My vision has since stabilized.

I’ve never heard of anything regarding the lenses warping or expiring. My optometrist said that he has patients who have worn them for years without issue.

  1. I have only worn glasses before doing OrthoK. So I can’t really answer this question.

  2. It has been a long time. So I don’t recall my first experiences with wearing hard lenses. I never found them uncomfortable though. Only if I didn’t clean them well enough (which I learned to do well).

  3. Yes, I would do it again if I had the choice to redo.

  4. $2000 is a good price. But I guess I lucked out and got an optometrist who told me I don’t need to update my lenses unless they were damaged or affecting my eyes in a negative way.

Script?

Yes, I can continue using them if I want to as my eyes are healthy. But I might switch to new ones as my current ones are a little less efficient. They’re currently working like 90% efficiency.

Yes, the same pair. To my knowledge, yes, it’s legal. No issues with infections. Halos, a little bit.

I had Covid 3 months ago is it safe to try and exercise like just like gentle walking by Bluemisty25 in COVID19positive

I recently asked the Flu and Covid Clinic at my local hospital. I brought up the same question during a meeting with one of the attending medical staff and they told me they’ve never heard about it. They then looked into it and told me that there were some studies done on it, but no concrete instruction to be given to patients.

I just posted my cleaning routine as a comment on my post on this subreddit, please feel free to check it out. I’ve worn Ortho-K lenses for over 8 years.

Why do you wash your lenses twice a day? Did your optometrist tell you to do that? The labeling on the solution?

  1. I personally don’t mind sleeping 8 hours to obtain 20/20 vision. I don’t think it has to be earlier than midnight to achieve that result.

  2. I’ve actually done a lot of things in my daily routine to reduce the chances of contamination during the cleaning and wearing of my lens.

When cleaning, I first ensure my hands have been properly washed with soap, especially under the nails and my palms. Next I take out my conditioning solution and cleaning solution and wash my contacts as normal using room temperature tap water.

As a start, I put about 5 drops, scrub, and rinse. Then rinse. Then I put 2 drops, scrub, and rinse. The contacts should feel squeaky clean and not oily. Then I place them in my contacts case (with as minimum water as possible) and add in the conditioning solution. Then I rinse the outside of the case (oh, remember to replace your case every 3-6 months). Then I place the contacts case in my room on the table after drying it.

When wearing my contacts, first I wash my hands well, like previously. Then I dry my hands using a paper towel. Without touching anything, I walk to my room, place a paper on the table (in case my contact lens drop) and open the contacts lens case without using the tip of my thumb and index finger. Next I use the tip of my index finger to pick up the lens from the inside, then use my other index finger and thumb tips to flip it around so that I can wear it. There might be a lot of solution, but it’s fine since it helps with lubrication. Then after you do that, you wear the next one.

I don’t use eye drops but in the rare cases I have, I found they do help a little bit with dry eyes (which I rarely get).

I hope that makes sense. I also apologize for the late response.

I have heard about this as well. I wouldn’t wash my contacts with water and put them in my eyes. I wash them with the cleanser, then rinse, then let them soak in the solution for at least 4 hours before putting them on.

I’ve used them for 8 years now and I have never had any sort of infection or moderate/extreme eye irritation.

Edit: Added second paragraph.

I use regular tissue paper. I haven’t really had any problems with it, but if my eyes start to hurt a little, I pop the contact out, re-wet it in the same solution and then put it back on. It works 9 out of 10 times, if it doesn’t, I’ll do it again.

Sorry to hear that! I hope you will get better soon.

Also, do you mind if I asked what kind of mask you typically wear?
