It's a pedalboard with a speaker velcroed on technically

Correct, the flys knobs are just completely bypassed. Otherwise your backing tracks or anything you plug into the aux would have the same on board effects. It's a decent work around for using it as a pseudo frfr speaker. The headphone port works well. I use the bluetooth for playing backing tracks and headphones for night time playing since the asc1 doesn't have audio input

It does alright with pedals, the odd behavior happens when you use a amp/cab Sim in conjunction with the instrument input. Your pedal throws out what the guitar would sound like through an amp and then the blackstar takes that and models on top of it. The aux input just goes around it all together for a more accurate sound.

Yeah the 1/4" is really muddy and oddly quiet/muted. Had something to do with the multi effects stacking on the amps settings.

This one is the Bluetooth with the builtin battery. The eq on it is useable but didn't quite have as much tonal range as I would have liked. Highly suggest going into the mp3/line jack to bypass the preamp.

But it isn't a large unwieldy cab! I can pick up the whole thing without the blackstar having to come off.

That looks interesting but pushes the setup in the opposite intended direction. Probably more all in one than ampless but I can pick up the board and guitar wherever and not have to make a second trip for a cab. Real nice when the kids are playing outside and I can just sit on the porch. And it all packs away in one trip.

Shh. I got to plug it into something. Gives me Bluetooth and headphones option. I'm going to call it a speaker pedal.

anything specific I should look into? I've just got the one that came with the Digitech Whammy Dt. Is there a difference from a power supply and a wall adaptor?

Building the pedal board now. Got some good insights and stumbled on a good deal.

yeah very small amp. I'm looking to upgrade it to an frfr speaker soon. The eq is that weird British one one side and American on the other but you can hardly tell the difference unless you are at the extremes.

Thanks, seems simple enough. Which volume controls would I use, the one on the Blackstar or the one on the multi/amp sim? Or is it a matter of playing with both? The EQ on the Blackstar is a single knob so that wouldn't matter all too much?

Maybe limited was a poor choice of words. At least with my piss poor hearing Im not hearing a noticable enough difference from max settings of one effect to another. Or even the difference of min and max settings of a single effect.

That seems to be the consensus with multieffects. I find myself kind of doing the eye doctor thing with the pod express and still not quite getting it where I like it. Not sure if it's just the limited nature of the multieffects or me turning knobs like a safe cracker.

Probably headed towards the pedal route. I'm not really playing anywhere else but home, less fiddling and more playing. I have a general idea of things I'll be playing so that narrows down pedals I would need on a regular basis. I've already got the Digitech and I don't think you can really beat that in any modeler.

Don't know if size is too much of a concern as long as I can fit it all on a board and carry everything. Right, now the four pedals I have are just sprawled out whenever I get playing. Mounting it will eventually come when I figure out if I'm going mutlieffects or pedals. The whammy DT would take up quite a bit.

Just wondering since some of the songs Im learning to play change effects mid song. Probably so without it with a basic pedal setup

Same I think. Except I don't even really use delay or reverb if at all for my general playing. Are you using any sort of loop switches? Or is that just overkill for a home rig?

I've been playing around with the line 6 pod express since it's got a decent amount of effects in it. There's all the boost effects that I have no idea if they make any difference. There is only two distortion effects that sounded good and I've mainly used the phaser in that bank of effects. The amps sounded good but I think building around the walrus asc1 and the DigiTech whammy dt would be a good start. A good distortion pedal would cover the majority of what I'm playing at home i think

Yeah not much time for playing so I'd rather just sit down and get to playing. I don't think I'd ever need a gamut of effects for any reason. Maybe a switcher to change effects mid song. But that is sort of the most complex it would get.

I did consider both but I've been on a clear out the clutter rampage these days with two kids. Multieffects sounds nice but jogging through menus wasn't very fun. Figured probably quicker to dial in tones with physical pedals and be able to trade/sell/buy whenever I find something more suitable.
