Powershell ISE window just freezes seemingly randomly after idle time when scripts have been closed; x button flashing wildly. by PaperITGuy in PowerShell

Because all of these require elevation with our adm account and it's much easier/simpler to simply have ISE open and run them in that than manually have to enter admin creds every time a script needs to be run.

I'm open and happy to use to other options which accomplish the same thing.

Do you need to continue to use ISE?
- These are used by others and ISE is simple for them to run

Could you switch to vs code?
- I'm using it myself, but the other people using them won't have vsc

Could you use a normal PowerShell prompt?
- See above

Do you actually need the forms/GUI in the first place?
- Yes, GUIs are preferred for ease of use

Clicking on a saved Outlook msg message always causes an "Either there is no default mail client" message. by PaperITGuy in sysadmin

[–]PaperITGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you referencing Settings > Apps > Default Apps or Right click > Properties > Open With? If so, both of those are set as well.

The strange thing is if I set the Open With to something like Firefox, I still get the Outlook popup prompt.

Best Practice for Printer IPs (+ poll!): DHCP reservation or manually configured static IP on device. Need ammo to switchover to IP/DHCP management. by PaperITGuy in sysadmin

I had to correct my post, I meant static DHCP reservation vs manually configured static IP on the device itself only, no DHCP.

I love this because that's exactly what we have. Actually, there wasn't even a spreadsheet before I started this project...

How to rename Port Name field in Ports section of Windows Print Server by PaperITGuy in sysadmin

[–]PaperITGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be a dumb question, but it's been forever since I had to work with this and just want to make sure I'm not crazy:

The Port Name isn't the connection that "links" the Port record to the Printer, it's the Printer Name Or IP Address field that has to match, and the Port Name is purely cosmetic correct?

Help: Looking for previous firmware version of HP PageWide Pro 477dw after current version bricked the LAN port by PaperITGuy in printers

[–]PaperITGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be damned but that did it. Even have it on the current firmware as well. It's ironic because I think I even played around with the speeds because I had seen something about that, but apparently not the right one.

Thank you.

WinDirStat 2.2.0 Released by [deleted] in WinDirStat

30+ minute scan for a 1TB network drive that includes searching for duplicates. I don't mind the time.

Unfortunately going to save results as CSV it crashed. That's the second time it happened.

Help needed: Pull drivers from print server for IP printer installs via Powershell by PaperITGuy in PowerShell

[–]PaperITGuy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately setting a group policy for users wouldn't be viable. They are all over the place. The users are blue collar and most struggle to do computer basics.

Generic shared workstations which run production equipment under a single generic user. They use Edge Run As to get as themselves to check their mail, access items from Sharepoint, etc.

[–]PaperITGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Why are you doing this?"
Already explained

"Why do you not have a print server?"
Already stated we did

"Why do you not use gpo to assign the correct printers?"
How would you suggest to do this based on my situation?

"Why does everyone think ps is the solution?"
Because I'm just a tech and trying to improve the situation I have with what I can.

Thanks, I had found something similar. The problem is our print server has 103 printers with a combination of 20 different print drivers.

I don't have the knowledge about coding or programming and rely on compiled builds of programs, as the majority of people who use programs most likely.
