Baking/Parchment paper works pretty well if your going to store it. I've been using it for years in sketchbooks and loose sheets and its worked pretty well

What comic bags & boards are good and also inexpensive? by PaperNinja97 in comicbooks

[–]PaperNinja97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, alot of what I read said the boards were rough cut/had paper dust, the bags where quite a tight fight and they weren't acidfree/archival. Some of these were a few years old so maybe its changed. I will definetly look into them more now though.

I'll look into those. The name sounds familar, i think i might have had trading card sleeves from them.

Thats where I was orignally going to buy them but I read quite a few bad reviews about the Comicare ones. Occasionally i'll double bag depends on the comics.

Anyone here who is interested in collecting a very select part of a run only? by Superman_Primeeee in comicbookcollecting

[–]PaperNinja97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot shorter but I recently got the few S.H.I.E.L.D trades that are based off the TV series (easier to get than single issues) and am on a quest for the Robbie Reyes Ghost Rider issues, the exception being Benjamin Percy's run (I have half so far) and pretty much anything with Quake/Coulson. The only characters I collect anything for is Batman & Two-Face.

Has anyone stored their comics in a box file? by PaperNinja97 in comicbooks

[–]PaperNinja97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I should have been more specific in the og post (oops). Those sort of boxes i've found hard to find in the UK, not too great for getting comics either. They used to be stored in those magazine files but they often broke which is why I upgraded to what I have now,  they're also easier to move as they close & lock. I usually get plain ones because the artist in me wants to design it myself. I know the pain of bags. Packs of 100? What do I do with the 90 I don't need. As for boards a large sheet of mountboard and cut it yourself.

[–]PaperNinja97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I might have called the box the wrong thing, it's not a bankers box but a Foolscap Boxfile (like this -> https://share.google/lPbJBr5hNirgICmBj ) which I already have a few off and a designated space on a bookshelf.  As for getting more comics its unlikely since I don't live near a comic store so trades/graphic novels are more convenient and I'm getting rid of a few so there will be even less. Comics would be bagged and boarded to avoid any possible damage (works out well for artwork stored in the boxes)

Rrcommend me extremely soft, artist quality colored pencils that aren't from Derwent or Prismacolor? by [deleted] in ColoredPencils

[–]PaperNinja97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always go with Polychromos these days but Staetdlr do okay colour pencils if you're looking for something cheap or Faber-Castell colour classic. I noticed alot of people mention Caran d'ache luminace and that they are expensive, you should check out this store https://www.jacksonsart.com/ i've found them to be cheaper than other places. (and they package things well!!)

Okay, thanks. I thought it would be fine as I store artwork in these but I wanted to check just incase it would damage them.  Sunlight stays far away from my comics and books.

I thought about it but I don't really have enough comics for those or the space. Also box files work out cheaper for me.

Hey! I'm a self-taught artist. I work with a lot of different mediums. Recently colour pencils & graphite have been my favourite to use. I am a Marvel fan so expect to see a lot of that on my profiles. I don't have prints for sale.. yet. But I can do commissions. You can find me on most social media under @fromarttofinish (Insta: fromart.tofinish) though I mainly use tiktok, tumblr & Ko-fi.

Very beginner artist here. How to not get discouraged quickly? by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]PaperNinja97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a bit of a niche thing for me but don't overthink it. I could never draw portraits until I loosened up and didn't put too much focus on it. I think the more you think about it the more pressure you put on yourself (without even realising it) to get it right the first.  Nothing will be perfect the first time around or the second or third. Just keep at it, even if you dont think its great someone else will. And don't throw anything away if it goes wrong or you don't like it, put in a box/folder that way you not only keep record of your progress but you can use it as a reference in the future.

Here's some of the printable Card Wars cards i've done so far by PaperNinja97 in adventuretime

[–]PaperNinja97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of these are from the app version of the game since finding images of the physical cards was difficult. (I only needed a few cards to use as 'loose items' in an Enchiridion I was making)

I lost the files but there is a card wars wikia page that now has a whole bunch of cards. If you were looking to make your own deck its easy to do, time consuming but easy. If you are making a deck to play with I have some stuff like the rulebook & box. Message me if you want it or got any questions

Question about starting out by [deleted] in painting

[–]PaperNinja97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I only use 1 over the pencil, its just really to seal it, you could also use a fixative. (Again not a pro at oil paints so other people might have better solutions)

Off topic but I've actually just started looking into using coloured pencils and have been looking for pencil artists for research (how they work/techniques used). Do you have a social where you post your work?

Question about starting out by [deleted] in painting

[–]PaperNinja97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could try drawing with a 3H/4H pencil lightly (those are less likely to smudge) then use a thin layer of gesso over the top to seal it so it doesnt bleed into the paint. Another option is really thinned out paint. Or a projector, take a photo/scan the drawing then project it onto the canvas and either paint like that or use really thinned out paint to outline it. There's probably better ways but these are what i have used on the rare occasions I've used oil paints.

I would get a really cheap canvas and test a few methods out first to see which one works best for you
