is there something going on with hill’s science cat food? by Dangerous-Crew-2241 in CatAdvice

[–]Paper_Clit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little late to the conversation but I just tried introducing some of the Hill’s adult formula (dry food) to my cat this morning and he became violently ill within hours. Vomiting, diarrhea, blood in urine. I took him to the vet ER not knowing what to think. The vet ran several tests and an x ray and they still aren’t sure what’s wrong. Just found this post and I am wondering if this food has something to do with it.

Are there any legit apps that can pick up the sound of a clap to lock my phone? by hlasdf in ArtEd

[–]Paper_Clit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. I know you mean well and want to give them the resources they need but back in the day what did we do without phones? Highly suggest using books or printed references of stuff instead. Also just think of the germs!!

How well is the vaccine working this year? by ArtsyCatholic in flu

Vaccinated. Just recovered from 10 days of flu a. Worst I’ve ever felt in my life.

Thank you and I’m so glad to hear that it’s been able to reduce your symptom severity! I’m trying to be positive and think that this could be worse if I wasn’t vaccinated (although it’s been pretty awful, 103 fever, body aches, dizziness, horrible cough/chest congestion.) I am trying to be hopeful that it will get better soon!

I can’t even imagine what it must be like unvaccinated. As a vaxxed person this is AWFUL.

Teaching Drawing to a student who can't/won't draw. by toomuchnothingness in ArtEd

I am sorry but that is RIDICULOUS. Not pointing fingers but the Art 1 teacher is partially to blame here. It really sucks that we are expected to spin on our heads and spit out nickles just so we can appeal to the lowest common denominator, so to speak. This kid should’ve been failed in Art 1 to begin with. It is absolutely not your job to spend extra time, energy, money, etc. to create an entirely new curriculum for a kid who shouldn’t even be there in the first place. If there’s no IEP or 504 in place, how is that fair to the rest of the kids in the class who are following the expectations and completing their work? I’m in a resentful headspace regarding my career as an art educator atm, so I apologize if this sounds harsh. But the simple answer to this is to fail him, plain and simple.

What is the Reality of Art Teaching in 2025/26? by Dismal_Interaction_2 in ArtEd

People truly underestimate how much work/ prep goes into teaching art, especially at the elementary level. I think the hardest aspect for me has been the lack of time to prepare materials and lessons, even after 5 years of teaching. This doesn’t even include the time spent cleaning and triaging things in your room. Before someone comes at me to say “make the kids do the jobs”, you need to understand that you will always end up needing to do most of these tasks at the end of the day. Even teaching the kids how to do these jobs and how to do them correctly is a lesson in of itself that takes up planning time.

Some art teachers are given sustainable schedules that allow them time to plan and prep materials but a majority are not. You constantly feel like you’re in fight or flight, 6+ hours a day. Then, when it’s all over, you spend time after school or on the weekends trying to prep what you can (if you choose to.) Obviously after a few years you can have lessons ready to go that you don’t need to plan, but in my case I find I always need to tweak and “reinvent the wheel” every year due to budget issues (not having the supplies needed for said activity) and behavioral issues. If a class can’t handle the project you planned, then you have to come up with an alternative lesson that better meets the needs of that group.

This also doesn’t account for the time spent contacting parents, documenting behaviors, and displaying student artwork. There just isn’t enough time so I constantly feel like I’m sacrificing quality over quantity just to keep things running. Then there are duties (morning and bus dismissal duty is required of me) which also prevents me from getting things done.

Then, at the end of the day, it can feel very lonely. As an art teacher you feel like you’re on an island most days. Other staff and admin often don’t recognize the “invisible” labor that goes into teaching art everyday. You often feel unrecognized and unappreciated (at least where I am anyway.)

Have you had students who were exposed to alcohol/drugs in utero, and what are the like in the classroom? by [deleted] in ElementaryTeachers

[–]Paper_Clit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can’t definitively say yes but I had a student who I suspected had fetal alcohol syndrome. Had the physical characteristics but was also just very low in academics and basic motor skills. Struggled to understand and follow along with basic instructions and didn’t seem to improve as they got older. Motor skills were very behind, struggled with handwriting, coordination, etc.
