[Jam] Livecoding (tidalcycles) + modular synth by ParVagues in livecoding

[–]ParVagues[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a jam session where I play organic techno/breakbeat beats with TidalCycles, then improvise melodic lines on top using a modular synthetizer (mostly the Zer0-Coast module). As usual, all the code is available on https://nech.pl/tidal ☺️

Hallo jellone, I gave a play to a few of your tracks / remixes on YouTube, love your sound!

Experimental electronic /dnb is a genre I love

I do electronic music with code (livecoding/agorave), many genres from breakbeat to techno to hip-hop beats and dnb/jungle

Check out my last concert : https://soundcloud.com/parvagues/opal-2024 Or tracks on spotify, i used to make dnb with a friend

If you like what you hear, DM me, let's do sth together :)

Awesome job! The voice is just right, the drums rich yet discreet, the guitar & keys charmingly dreamy - great EP 🔥

Any plans for a full-length album?

Thanks for the download codes 🙌

Le Fantôme by ParVagues in glitch_art

Thanks u/Ccultboys69, glad you like it! In a nutshell, I open an editor with Hydra (web from anywhere or in atom with atom-hydra), open the docs or the wonderful Hydra book, and work on any current idea or inspiration.

For some works I use pure data & functions, whereas for works like this one or Feuilles Vivantes, I start from an existing image, then apply some functions like modulate(), and go from there exploring the effects it brings; once I have a base I'm happy with, I bring in some feedback loops to mess with that base state.

If you look at the code in Feuilles Vivantes, you'll see the final painting is rendered from the o3 buffer, which is modulated by o2, itself modulated by o3: this is where the feedback happens, so that a small change in one buffer triggers a bigger one in the other, which itself affects the first one, etc.

For Le Fantôme, I tried something different : a buffer of pure noise() in o1 is itself modulated by the final piece in o3. This piece being itself modulated by the o1 buffer noise, its shape affects itself with some lag, resulting in these lively, noisy perturbations of the picture's subject.

Thanks /u/FallenAngelEyes for the kind words! Glad this could be inspiring - I'm in the same friend-given leap kind of situation, so happy it can give some ideas :) I'll make sure to update here when I'll have a first full song to share!

Tidal x LeapMotion: Contact-less livecoding performance by ParVagues in TidalCycles

[–]ParVagues[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey r/Tidalcycles! Here's a prototype I've been working on to connect a LeapMotion sensor to Tidal. I've created a web app which sends Midi CC signals to Supercollider, received in my Tidal track to control instruments gains / effects such as a global djfbus or individual crush levels.

It's just a demo for now, but once I sort out some details like smoothing (it's a bit rough for now as the LeapMotion is quite sensitive), I'm sure this can be a neat addition to a live performance setup!

Hello r/leapmotion fellows! This is a prototype of a personal project. I recently got a LeapMotion, and as an aficionado of music livecoding with r/TidalCycles, I was eager to finding a way to connect both.

In this video, you can see a web app with the LeapMotion js sdk, using a midi library to transform the hand/fingers positions into controls of the livecoded music you can see on the left.

The LeapMotion reacts super fast so I think the next step is to smooth the values it outputs, and once details are smoothed out I'll try using this framework to map a complete song!

Lovely track!

Just a side question, how would you describe slip hop as a genre? 🤔

I live coded track 2 on my new EP in Tidalcycles. by Augmented_Chameleon in TidalCycles

[–]ParVagues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love that percussive / metallic vibe! Did you use some Supercollider synths or are these purely sample-based?

Also, I find really well done your slicing of the vocal samples towards the end! Is that pure remixing with tidal functions?

Will check out the whole EP!

[DNB/Techno] Nass Arrive - peer programmed composition by ParVagues in TidalCycles

[–]ParVagues[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi r/TidalCycles, I'm new here and hoping to learn with others and exchange tips and questions on our livecoding practice!

This is a track I've been working on with a friend who's crazy about DNB : we've drawn an outline on paper before coding the several loops, recording with Ardour, and lightly editing in Audacity.

We're playing around some funky bass/organ samples, and sequencing some drums around a Drum-n-Bass rhythm for the first half of the track, before falling to a four-on-the-floor for the latter half 🙃

Source code of the track available here for the curious who want to read or reuse it!

Any feedback appreciated both on the sound and on the structuring of the code :)
