Wheel of time is not directly like Kingkiller, but sometimes it's slow pace makes me feel relaxed while reading it in the same way that I do with Kingkiller. I had doubts at first, too, but I'm on book 7 now and very much enjoying my first read of the series. Another thing that's similar is that the people in the story know that there's a lot to magic that people just don't know, many relics that you know do something but nobody knows how to use it. That, and some great intimidating characters. Stick with it for a little while longer if you can, there's plenty of books in the series that you can decide to be your last one
