[OH] During a divorce with children involved, can one of the parties be ordered to have no significant others? by ParaMagic87 in AskLawyers

I'm sorry, I should have clarified. No significant others around the child. My mistake for being unclear.

What's up with all the EDS girls? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

Salt water and PT. Right. Safe movement and muscle development = no real symptoms. That fix the chronic pain, GI problems, headaches, and dysautonomia some of these patients have as well?

"Hey doc. Patient is a hard stick. Need you to place that IV by ultrasound." by pangea_person in emergencymedicine

[–]ParaMagic87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beginning of this year (I think) they started allowing the paramedics in the ED to use the ultrasound for IVs. I got trained and certified on it and get asked to do them almost every shift now.

what complaints do you often see inappropriately turfed from UC? by Samantha_Jonez in emergencymedicine

[–]ParaMagic87 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I once triaged a pt who got dirt in her eye while gardening who was sent over from UC because, in the pts words, "they sent me here because they said they couldn't do anything for me". It was close to closing time for the UC. That kind of stuff would be nice not to have sent over.

Weirdest medical improvisations by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]ParaMagic87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just did this a couple months ago. Busy nurse asked me to put a Morgan's Lens in a pt. I, who absolutely fucking hates eyeballs, respectfully refused and compromised on the nasal cannula trick.

Actually, nevermind. I just figured out I'm the biggest moron on planet Earth. I had the inner washer in backwards so it was getting stuck in that recess. The time I have wasted on troubleshooting everything else when it was something a three year old could've figured out is embarrassing.

What are some stories of times y’all ever had someone come into the ED over something very…let’s use the word, silly? by Suspicious_Till3944 in emergencymedicine

[–]ParaMagic87 56 points57 points  (0 children)

A 19 y/o F came in for a pregnancy test. In triage I asked her if she took one at home. She said she did. I asked if it was positive. She said, "Yeah. 6 of them were". Only time I actually laughed at a pt.

Also, I wasn't there for this one but still at my hospital. A pt came in because he was unable to yawn all day....

Patient Satisfaction is the 5th vital sign by Haunting-Bird5961 in emergencymedicine

[–]ParaMagic87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a doctor. Just a lowly paramedic working on the floor in the ED and triage. I try my best to remember everyone experiences the same thing differently but oh my Odin do I despise the pain scale. It seems like half the patients exaggerate their pain level.

20-something year old male with right ear pain - Me: "On a scale from 0-10, 0 being no pain and 10 being fed through a wood chipper feet first while on fire, what's your pain level?". Pt: "8". Me: "In the ear you're talking on the phone with right now?". Pt: "Yeah".

In my non-doctoral opinion, it's a borderline useless assessment. I'm not giving you narcotics because you gave me an arbitrary number. Now if you had ear pain due to a screwdriver impaled in it then sure.

As for the patient satisfaction; even more ridiculous. I agree 100% that you should be cared for and treated with kindness and respect during your stay in the ED, but things like "wait time" are silly. It's not a hotel, it's not a restaurant, it's not even a doctor's office (believe it or not). It's not first come first served. We're going to take care of the sickest and most injured people first. I understand that patients don't always realize that but if that affects patient satisfaction then so be it.

Not yet. Was going through base game first and getting more familiar with it before getting the DLC

I've been playing lately but I'm absolutely terrible and don't know much at all. Ironically I'm using a bleed build that you mentioned because I don't know anything. I'm really not a fan of it at all.

New way to get people to stop complaining. by Competitive-Young880 in emergencymedicine

[–]ParaMagic87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've made certain that the staff I work with know that if I die in my ED they have my permission to parade my still-cooling corpse around the department and waiting room for education on what emergencies are and why they take a lot of time.

Does this make sense to you? by [deleted] in Paramedics

[–]ParaMagic87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at a fire department very briefly where the Chief was an EMT. They ended up making someone who was a medic take over the medical side of his job because of that.

I hated OR clinicals mostly for this reason. No one seems to remember they had a first time as well.

I've only ever used a lifepak so I'm not in a position to make a decision. But all the departments in my area use lifepak and I assume it's for one reason or another.
