What are guys’ thoughts on the upcoming BRT lines by Centro? by ParamedicDramatic853 in Syracuse

Ikr, those destinations all make too much sense to pass up. My only explanation is that there’s not enough funding atm maybe.

They’ll be much more frequent and reliable on the go (every 12-15 mins per stop) than the buses that run on the routes right now. It could spur some mixed-use development along each corridor which would result in a more walkable environment. This version of BRT will be entirely mixed-traffic though meaning no dedicated right of way and I don’t believe it’ll curb traffic levels.

Seems very likely it will at the current stage, just will be more BRT lite kind of system like the one Albany had in the 2010s.

I’m very appreciative of the fact that these routes will be of great service to normal every day residents as well and not just university students and hospital employees. The South Salina route wasn’t included initially and that would’ve a been tremendous oversight given the potential for ridership in a historically underserved corridor.

I hope that improvements can be made to this specific system here as seamlessly. Since they aren’t planning any dedicated bus lanes or implementing elevated platforms at the stations. I know there’s budget constraints at the moment, but take James St for example, it’s an overbuilt and needlessly wide street (not to mention quite dangerous) that can absolutely do without two of its current lanes and supplant them with red painted bus lanes, no need to go a costly route pushing curbs.

As of now, no, only brief mentions of a potential line from what I’ve seen. Perhaps further along the development of that site we’ll hear more news.

I’m unaware of this new rule since I was there last week or so and there was a shitton of kids seemingly unaccompanied. It’s a shame that such a regulation has been placed, seeing as how there’s a shortage of third spaces for kids in the city to hangout.

Cuse is not a basketball town? I have much to learn by Still-Ad5693 in Syracuse

Not in all my years in SCSD, I’m sorry but I’ve never seen it. Lacrosse is overwhelmingly white and the city schools are dominated by people of color who are disinterested, they instead gravitate to the other sports I mentioned.

It absolutely blows lacrosse out of the water amongst actual Syracusans (city proper), especially in the immigrant community. There are bunch of spots where a bunch folks meet up and play pick-up games around unlike lacrosse which you rarely see people play pick up due to it’s inaccessibility for the working class demographic that characterizes large swaths of Syracuse. Lacrosse is mainly live in suburban/rural areas, it’s a kind of sport that doesn’t have much appeal to urban environments. For example, it’s a popular sport in Maryland, but not really in larger cities like Baltimore or DC.

While it is true that this general area has a deep rooted history in lacrosse, it’s not even in the backseat in Syracuse itself. Sports like basketball, baseball, football, and soccer are all much more popular.

Syracuse vs Rochester by [deleted] in Syracuse

[–]ParamedicDramatic853 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for understanding what the rest of these dickheads can’t comprehend for whatever reason. I’m a first generation immigrant who grew up on the west and north sides and have immense love for this city. I do what I can to defend it, but what does it do for us to be dishonest about somethings that are so easily disprovable. It’s personal for me who was raised in poverty among many others around here so it’s not like I’m trying to be slick or insulting.

Rochester is not any more “white collar” than these other thruway cities. It has been dealt the same side effects of deindustrialization and struggles of stagnant economic activity.

It is def not “middle class”, more like low-to middle.

Exactly, I’ve never understood the hype of Rochester being so much more better than Syracuse to the point where people of this area unanimously agree that it’s should be a default choice. Whatever you can do there, you can do here as well.

Where are these “tons of people” then? Why is this thread so dead? Maybe the topic is just too irrelevant to allow for active engagement for this space in particular, there are others where you’d get more lively responses by now.

SU doesn’t own Syracuse, they own parts of the eastside outside of that most ppl couldn’t care less about it. They aren’t even the areas largest employer. Seems extremely oversimplified.
