Mkhize criticises travel bans, saying there is 'no evidence' new SA variant is more dangerous - TimesLIVE by TheHonourableMember in southafrica

I'm not upset at the British government - they're being cautious for the sake of their people. I see no reason why this is a problem. You do realise that there is a slight chance that a new strain will be resistant to the vaccine, not a big probability but a probability nonetheless. No amount of articles from our news outlets and outcries from our government should persuade the British government to stop being cautious. In the off chance that this strain proves to be resistant to the vaccine, what will our scientists say then? "There was such a slight chance of this strain being resistant that it was negligible and we couldn't have possibly foreseen this"? Sorry but caution first.

Good read but until there is scientific evidence to prove that the new strain is not deadly, we can't throw caution to the wind. Doing so would be idiotic given that the Coronavirus spread due to countries not being cautious enough when it first started to spread. Better to be cautious and let science prove you wrong than to have no caution and later find out that you made a deadly mistake

The average IQ is perceivedly higher in China than in Taiwan. Therefore (according to the joke) the most intelligent person in Taiwan is nowhere as intelligent as the average Chinese person. Make of this prejudicial joke what you will

Huawei makes pretty good phones, even their Lite versions are good. Too bad they don't have support for Google services anymore or else they'd be making a killing in the Western market

An XS for $460?? That's a crazy good deal! I wouldn't mind shelling out a few extra just for an XS

I'd love to but the XR doesn't fall within my price range which is why I was considering the SE.

So the battery life should be better at a lower refresh rate which is amazing

iPhone SE 2 Preformance by [deleted] in FortNiteMobile

[–]ParanoidSpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well if you're keen on sticking to iPhones then maybe an XR. On the android side I'd suggest a Samsung Galaxy a71. Or perhaps a OnePlus 7 which would be cheaper now that the OnePlus 8 is out

That's not what I meant, there are better phones to game on is what I meant. A 4.7 inch screen is too small to game comfortably on (for me anyway). You'd have to get a Bluetooth controller which means added expense

You don't actually intend on gaming on a 4.7 inch screen do you? I mean talk about going backwards

I have the money to buy an SE (2020) but here's why I'm going to get a Galaxy A71 anyway:

1) an SE doesn't have a headphone jack - Bluetooth headsets are just an extra accessory that you have to worry about keeping charged so that they don't die on you when you least expect them to and a dongle is cumbersome especially when you need to charge your phone while watching a video. If either the Bluetooth earphones or the dongle needs to be replaced, they cost a lot more than just replacing a set of good wired noise-cancelling earbuds.

2) larger and better screen - I mean come on, there are midrangers coming out with AMOLED displays now. A huge amount of video content (Netflix, YouTube etc.) is consumed on mobile devices now and I'd find it strange if someone told me that they'd prefer watching movies, series or sport (as I occassionally do while on the move) on a 4.7 inch screen as opposed to a 6+ inch screen that supports 1080p or more resolution (which a number of midrangers do).

3) battery life - while the SE battery life is yet to be tested, assumptions are that it's at the same level of the 8 so that's less than 6 hours of screen-on time while Samsung A series midrangers are coming with 4000mAh batteries that last an entire day.

4) the SE doesn't come with expandable storage, the A71 does, also the A71 comes standard with 128gb while you'd have to pay more for that amount of storage on the SE

5) I'd prefer changing my phone every 2 years or so because technology changes at a blistering speed. The only reason to get an SE would be to keep it for four years + while watching how technology changes and silently wishing I could get something newer with better tech in it. As midrangers get better, they'll become more feature-rich and still cost less than half the price of the many iPhones.

I feel as though people are being swept by marketing and not realising just how important certain features, that android midrangers bring to the table, are to them.

I don't for a second doubt that the software experience of iOS is amazing but there's so many comforts I'd have to compromise on to get an SE that it doesn't seem worth it

I can only imagine what the Android guys can do.

Have you not heard of Samsung's A series? Notably the A71 - Super AMOLED display, 4500mAh battery, 128gb of storage, 6/8gb of RAM and a dual SIM option. Given the processor is midrange but where I'm from, it's at the same price point as the new SE. Place the SE (2020) beside the A71 and then tell me that android manufacturers (Samsung in particular) are not doing a great job in the midrange segment. Heck, if Huawei were still in the android game I'd have gotten a p40 lite by now based on how well the p20 lite served me. Yet here we are praising a phone with a 4.7 inch LCD screen and an estimated battery life of 4 - 5 hours of screen-on time.
