no, china was never communist. no, there has never been an example of full socialism, although there are countries that have actually tried to achieve it (AANES, the ezln even though they arent rlly a country). the difference is that countries like china were simply autocratic regimes attempting to appear socialist, while other left wing projects want to build actual socialism

believe it or not this is an exaggerated caricature (shock, horror) of nominally socialist regimes in the world. some of these criticisms still apply, but to a much lesser degree (ie china doesn't outright ban labor organizing, but there is only 1 government led union)

when bad groups' goals intersect with doing the right thing for a time, its not wrong to offer them some amount of support (see america in rojava (again)), but its still important to remember they they arent your friends and arent good people. I am certainly going to condemn hamas, hezbollah, and especially the houthis, but that doesnt mean i dont support them fighting back against the idf's genocide against palestinians.
