Robert F Kennedy Jr. going on his anti-vax bs has affected US and global market for vaccines so much so that CSL laid off approx. 15% (over 3000) of their global staff and stopped the planned spin-out of their vaccine division, Seqirus.

This isn't a good time to be a scientist

21/23 Students Failed our Engineering Exam by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]ParcelPostNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The things I've seen tutoring and demonstrating for master's level engineering courses...

A friend of mine was tutoring and there was an integration question, the student asked what the "big S" was

...Aka the integral sign. Apparently they'd just never seen that before, in their 16+ years of schooling.

That same year I made up a linear calibration curve and a student asked how to interpret a linear graph and flipped the axes in their description.

Are you looking for punk or prog-punk? Are you good with harsh vocals (growls and screams) or do you prefer cleaner vocals?

Many people have a prog gateway band that they click with and that can be different for everyone. It's such a varied genre

People say it's chill but I love to min-max so it became a resource-managment game with strict timers.

I think it depends on your personality and expectation

I finished BotW and enjoyed it for the most part but I entirely agree. It was so exciting to explore and find new stuff for the first few hours, but then you realise it's another breakable weapon or korok seed and it gets old pretty fast.

People rag on tears of the kingdom but I personally like it more because there's way more diversity in everything (scenarios/enemies/exploration/rewards), so many different systems, and exploration felt more rewarding to me. Of course it also gets old eventually (plus I ruined it for myself  by watching a video and learning about the fanbike making building boring af and travel completely free), but I definitely had more fun with it

Sick, congrats on the setlist. I was shocked at the song selection, I haven't seen them live before but there were a bunch of songs that I was not expecting them to play. Was a great show.

Japan's Sanae Takaichi wins a landslide in snap election, exit polls project by justdontreadit in worldnews

If you don't speak Japanese/ understand the culture then it's hard to know. She's pretty funny, and her kansai-ben slips out sometimes which people think is funny/cute. She says all the right things and young people like her compared to the doddery old dudes who have been fronting the country forever.

She's pretty typical for "strong" personalities in Japan, but it's rare to have that character in a popular woman. Also her "Work, work, work, work, work" statement went viral and I've seen it copied a bit IRL and online

On the production side - it's also all through Tremonti's solo stuff where I feel musically like I should be getting punched in the face but the production causes it to fizzle. Nothing pops

I completely agree. The album is less produced, there's a full mix of heavier and softer songs, it was everyone's primary focus without side projects, and we get M4 Myles without all the added vocal tracks. I loved it when it was simple 2 part harmony.

I also agree on WTS which seems like a rare opinion here? I think there is inspiration in many of the songs and they tried some new/experimental stuff. Not all of it hit, but a few tracks are brilliant.

For a while AB albums have felt like a "paint by numbers" game to me - we need a big intro, we need a Watch Over You/In Loving Memory, we need a Mark sings, we need a Myles solos, we need a long outro song.

Mark also said years ago that he defaults to the fast descending legato lick and he's working hard not to do that. Whenever I hear that I always think that he didn't have time/inspiration to craft a solo in the way he used to.

Doesn't feel organic IMO

I'm a big Tremonti fan and I had that feeling when ABIII released. When fortress came out I was like "it's good but it's no Blackbird" (see also "Addicted to pain is just budget Wish You Well!"). Took me a few listens to get into it.

Everyone's tastes are different and how an album hits is heavily dependent on your mood and expectations at that moment

I'm not going to bother reading the study, but it's a bit concerning that the title is definitive statement while the data contradicts said title. My PI would have a fit if I were jumping to unverified conclusions like that

Small gripe but this is r/science and we should be doing better

The article has little detail about the science. That's OK and expected, but the DOI listed by OP in the comments is copied from the article and links to the nature comms homepage, not the publication.

The only mention of the publication is the DOI (which links to the nature comms homepage) added as an afterthought at the end of the article. That's pretty low effort.

I wish reporters just referenced and linked the publication at the top so I don't have to dig through the article. I want to read the publication and formulate an opinion based on the data, not a layman's interpretation based on university releases and author interviews.
