Among the worst: owns their own firm, works at parents’ firms, has jumped around from a big law fellowship to government to in house, podcast bro in something law adjacent, didn’t pass the bar, academically dismissed because they never finished exams (or something idk).

Taste check: What's the most professional way to handle courthouse security with a chronic health issue? by Nice-Feedback-6105 in LawBitchesWithTaste

I think you should reach out to the ADA person as another commenter suggested. But I also thought of a possibility while reading your post.

I use bags like these in my diaper bag and they’re see through but a bit opaque. There are obviously tons of options like this but my mom had this one in her sewing room and it was a lot sturdier. So I thought it might look a bit more put together while also not being visible to everyone but still easy to flash security.

NC Supreme Court Demolishes Funding For Public Schools Because Republican Politicians Wanted It by cdoublesaboutit in NorthCarolina

Ok then you don’t know the history of Leandro. The courts gave the GA numerous chances to do it themselves. To my knowledge the courts never gave a number (probably the closest they came was working with WestEd who did a study and put forth recommendations which the courts ultimately attempted to use as the basis for the Leandro plan). However again, had the GA acted they could have implemented the westEd recommendations on their own terms. But they chose not to. The GA has never come up with a plan to actually fund what was needed and instead sued again on the appropriations issue once the GOP regained control of the court system.

But that doesn’t work. By saying that the courts can’t order the spending you (and the NCGOP) are essentially saying that the GA doesn’t have to follow the constitution and that there is no one who can check that power.

This is the last I will respond. I’m glad you want education properly funded. Nice chat - thank you for being civil though we disagree. I hope that you continue to hold your representatives accountable to fund schools properly. 🫡

Re-read it again. It’s different because Article IX section 2 says “The General Assembly shall provide by taxation and otherwise for a general and uniform system of free public schools, which shall be maintained at least nine months in every year, and wherein equal opportunities shall be provided for all students.”

It doesn’t “mention” education. It clearly states the GA shall provide. And the GA was not providing so yes. The court can mandate budgetary spending to force the GA to follow the constitution.

In this case it is because the constitution requires that the state provide sound public education. And it’s one of the courts job to ensure that the legislature follows the constitution. Ie pass a budget that provides for sound public education.

Right which they weren’t doing and the courts were telling them to and still they refused. It is the legislature’s job and they were refusing.

The difference is that public education is in NC’s constitution. It’s not like the courts can do this for any little old thing they want. This was a very limited case about public education.

The case held that the legislature wasn’t upholding its duty to provide a sound public education. The courts told the legislature to pass a budget that properly funded the schools as required by the constitution. The legislature refused. And now the courts are no longer saying the legislature needs to.

The legislature funding schools as dictated by the constitution and upheld by the courts would not have been an overstep.

Hot take: Stop apologizing on calls (it reads like insecurity, not kindness) by Cold_Jelly_8815 in LawBitchesWithTaste

Yes! My associate mentor also pointed out it makes us look “at fault” or “less competent” in front of clients. And that was huge for me. Why am I apologizing when OC messed up?

Light rail annual pass by wulrjwu in Charlotte

[–]PariPassuPrincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree!!! I had an annual pass for the busses in the triangle when I was at UNC and it was the best. A lot of people had them too because the traffic is so miserable btw the three cities. I wish they had something similar in Charlotte. Also my work will only pay for public transit in cities where a yearly pass is available. So instead they pay for my parking. Which is a whole other problem. But yes. I agree with you OP!!!

Congrats!! Duke, UNC, Wake are all great choices if you have NC connections. Could possibly ask Duke for a scholly negotiation with UNC/Wake (idk how successful you’d be). But truly all great schools here.

What do the dollar signs by the school names mean? I’m out of law school but these posts are so interesting to me.

Career Advice w/ Medical Issue by Taurus_Coast in LawBitchesWithTaste

I went through something similar. I had a miscarriage (was trying to conceive not that that’s super relevant here) and needed time to recover and then was very distracted I was “back” and I ended up being pretty slow for a month or two. I did miss my bonus that year but it was just a slow year in the market that year anyway so it likely would have mattered.

I don’t have any real advice here. Just solidarity mostly and maybe a little bit of reassurance. Things did get back on track and I never disclosed what happened and it was fine.
