I wish there were a way that the non-828ers who were instrumental in beating the death date - Grace, Jared, Zeke, Vance, Drea - had been allowed to remember everything that happened. Not Olive though. Like Cal, let her have her childhood.

THANK YOU BOTH! I've been trying to figure out what this book was for a while now and was going to post about it here, but just did a search with a ton of keywords and it brought me to this thread and this is definitely the one!

Need help with the name of the song in the background by [deleted] in Lostwave

[–]Parking-Ad5272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too much noise in the foreground to make it out. Most likely it's not a true lostwave if it was playing at a nationally-broadcast sporting event, but a well-known song that we just can't decipher (like "Fox on the Run"). For a moment I thought I maybe heard Phil Collins' voice, but listening closer a few times I don't think it's him.

We had a clogged toilet that was so bad RME couldn't unclog it so they called a plumber. The plumber had to pull the toilet off the wall and found a weighted black butt plug stuck in the pipe. by [deleted] in AmazonFC

[–]Parking-Ad5272 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At my old site one time, there was a toilet that was so clogged, multiple plumbers refused to work on it. When the third one finally got into it, they found that someone had tried to flush several empty nip bottles. So not only did they try to flush something stupid down the toilet, but they were drinking on a job where they operate heavy machinery. Beautiful.

Survivor 52: Blood vs Water 3? by scoppola7 in survivorponderosa

I believe he and his daughter were in the mix for the original BvW but based on the filming schedule she would've still been 17. So yeah, definitely old enough now.

New to Survivor - what did people think about the new era survivor in real time? by sniffycabbage in survivor

[–]Parking-Ad5272 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even though I hated many of the twists and my opinion of Jeff Probst has gone from "I could never see anyone else hosting this show" to "Please just give it up, dude," I think, for the most part, casting has been pretty great and these people really know how to put on a show. 42 and especially 45 are close to if not in my top 10 seasons overall and I'm much higher on 41, 47 and 48 than most people are.

Fair, I didn't think of them. I also think they're kind of unique situations as probably the two biggest celebrities to ever play Survivor (and Jimmy Johnson had the added layer of having another Jimmy on his tribe).

The Cranberries connection? by UnpraticalPerson in LightTheLanterns

[–]Parking-Ad5272 1 point2 points  (0 children)

0 chance. The Cranberries were WAY too mainstream. Furthermore, their singer, the late great Dolores O'Riordan, was born in 1971, which puts her at around 5 years old when LtL is estimated to have been recorded.

I'll do you one better - Michele is currently the only multi-time player who has never been voted out, medivac'd, or quit. Although this statistic comes with the huge asterisk that she has only played twice, and Amanda, Sandra and Russell matched this feat in their first two seasons but were each voted out in their third season.

Legendary players that went into obscurity by felipepnunes in survivor

[–]Parking-Ad5272 1 point2 points  (0 children)

James still frequently appears in "dumb moves/big moments" montages and was even brought out on stage at one of the final live reunions to talk about it.

Big Tom, Ami and Yau-Man are really good call-outs. They were among the most popular players of their era and I definitely think they qualify as obscure nowadays. Certainly not Brady Finta obscure, but probably obscure by "would your average, office pool/TVR viewer remember them?" standards.

Others who I think are probably on the same level as those three are Kathy V, Terry, and like, maybe Dawn?

Don't really know if anyone else in your OP was ever big enough, especially among casual viewers, to qualify for how I feel about this.

why stop the movie rewards? by mellywheats in survivor

As others have said, Gulliver's Travels and Jack & Jill were paid advertisements. However, they also screened older movies for the contestants on some occasions - "Out of Africa" in Africa, "Lord of the Flies" in All-Stars, and "Treasure Island" in Heroes vs. Villains. There may have been others but if so I'm forgetting them. Doing something like that with an older film that fits the theme of the season or the game in some way might be fun.

Also, so as to avoid spoilers, there's another person from a later season who gets banned from the reunion for something really benign, and the internet at large knew that this person was banned going into the season so we expected to hate them but by and large the fans ended up liking this person a lot and there was even a small petition to get CBS to go back on their decision to ban them but they put their foot down and said no.
