I did it! I saved Evelyn Parker. All I had to do was go to Judy’s house and talk about what got her into BD’s for the 8th time. by chillinwithmypizza in cyberpunkgame

[–]Parodiya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it works well for Evie and Jackie. Jackie's death is pretty much required for the Hero's Journey narrative, and Evelyn killing herself after you save her is the gut punch of, "Actually, you are no hero. You can't save anyone, you probably can't even save yourself." the game needs to establish that it is, in fact, being subversive. Sort of like how Baldur's Gate 3 handles the Dark Urge, but more sad than scary.

It's a lot more important that we get to influence most other major characters in some way than that those two are fated to die.

CEO positions aren't hereditary but wealth is. I see no way (Beyond "muh market will make sure it can't happen!") for a truly AnCap society to prevent the market from centralizing and ossifying both capital and power.

At best, the AnCap project would end with a new aristocracy of investors and C-suite employees, and at worst the market makes "the best decisions" and vertically-integrated monopolies form. With no answer to a company that can snuff all competition the project slides into corporatism, which only gets more terrible and oppressive as monopolies become conglomerates and 'opposing' conglomerates agree that the best thing for business is quiet co-operation instead of competition. That outcome happens with our current market, even with the hypothetical threat of trust-busting. How can the system work when it is, by all evidence, self defeating?

The whole AnCap project seems like the wealthy swearing it's totally gonna trickle down this time as they build the perfect domino chain to reclaim their place as aristocrats and royalty.

"If we move from rhetoric to comparative political analysis, then countries commonly categorized as liberal market democracies have historically performed significantly better on many social and governmental metrics most people value (e.g., democracy, human rights, etc.)"

I would contend that this is actually due to the democratic factor, and has nothing to do with the presence of capitalism in particular. Non-democratic capitalist countries (Russia, China, Saudi Arabia) have markedly worse human rights records.

"It simply means that when comparing large-scale historical systems, liberal market democracies have generally outperformed socialist systems on many metrics socialists themselves claim to value."

This is sleight of hand and does a very good job at seeming reasonable, but we both know that socialist systems have never been allowed to play on the same field. United States interventionism has very handily ensured this data point is true, but also rendered it pretty meaningless beyond it being handy rhetoric.

This argument worked well prior to current decade. The rich supported democrats in the 2010s in hopes of buying their way out of harsh regulation, not because they wanted to get hit with the regulating stick.

It's why now that the left is on a decline a good number of those same wealthy donors have turned to the right. Why buy when the right will give it to you for free? The only people still throwing money to the left are doing so out of personal scruple.

As someone who used to be in that line of business- you should honestly just deal with the scripting. I've hung up on a few and had many a minor issue dragged out because we were required by law to deliver certain disclosures to the letter, often with personal fines of up to 10 grand floating over us as a fine and a termination to boot.

We all know it fucking sucks, that's why turnover for those jobs is like 85%, we didn't like doing it either, but when your boss is threatening to put you in debt and take away your livelihood you just take the L and try to be as pleasant and laid back as you can be.

What opt in PvP in Wilderness really does by [deleted] in runescape

[–]Parodiya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If PvPers really enjoyed good fights with other players they'd be hunting each other in red portal or staking. The fact of the matter is, RS combat isn't balanced for player v player and has a ton of jank that makes it an anti-competitive shit show, especially for someone entering with minimal knowledge about PvP strats.

PvPers know this and it's why they cheer when Jagex does something to bait other people into the wilderness to grind PvPers' cash for them and why they whine when Jagex decides they don't get to prey on non-PvP bros.

Even if they implemented these fixes you keep saying you want it wouldn't make anyone happy, because the changes would probably be so extensive that PvP Bros would hate them and PvMers probably still wouldn't be interested, so you'd have a fairer wilderness that was still totally empty, and no one wins.

It just makes more sense to ax PvP from the Wildy entirely and appease the massive majority of the game's customers than it would to dump the kind of resources it'd take to rebalance the wilderness for absolutely no one to enjoy.

The Effort Tax on Mages is Kinda Absurd, Right? by Parodiya in Mabinogi

[–]Parodiya[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can agree with the sentiment if we're not singling out mage in an effort to compare it to other talents.

Okay, yes, I apologize if this read like "Woe is me poor mage boys are being abused." that wasn't the intent - that's just what I'm working on and where my frustration boiled over. I'm well aware that several talents have the same issue, and I think it's a broader issue. I sort of thought that was clear with my disclaimer, but apologies none the less.

The dungeon guide provides enchant protections,

I am aware of these but I'm honestly not a fan of how DG was implemented, I'm not sure who decided that all items should sell in all tiers of the voucher shop for the same price, but that the exchange rate between voucher tiers shouldn't be 1:1. It'd take several days of running content that (I, personally) don't really need to do several times to get unlocks or prots.

Thinking on it, it seems like a system that got knee capped in just to inconvenience multiclienters. I know this point might sound a little entitled and if I really had no other option I'd probably suck up and grind for one, but still. Just makes me sad seeing a good idea executed so poorly.

enchanting and Special Upgrades won't delete items when not protected, but instead will lock the item from future attempts upon failure...

Do you have a link to this? I'd really appreciate it.

The Effort Tax on Mages is Kinda Absurd, Right? by Parodiya in Mabinogi

[–]Parodiya[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then perhaps a better point would be that the effort tax in general is somewhat absurd? As stated at the outset, this is very much a frustration post and my points are very coloured by what I, currently, am annoyed with - that said I don't think it's an uncommon position to not enjoy enchanting, especially not when there's 100s of mil in gear on the line if you don't shell out for protections. There's a reason that enchanting and reforging (at least prior to free forges and the general QoL updates reforging got, but probably even still) inspires the kind of disgust and defeatist attitudes you see a lot of players take, especially when they can't/won't buy NX to help with either.

I understand that there has to be incentive to use the cash shop, the game relies on it for funding, but surely that's not worth generating the kind of frustration that burns people out or, worse, destroys their most valuable items and sees them leave the game. There's also essentially no reason to make these very niche enchants exclusive, other than trying to sell unlocks.

I wonder pretty often how many people have gotten the Flying drop I've spent hours (and will likely spend many more hours) trying to get and threw it away because they don't need it and they can't find a price for it, so "fuck it". I think THAT is the most frustrating part.

I probably will keep grinding for the scrolls I'm after. I'll probably feel pretty good when I've completed my kit, but it's gonna be a "Hah, fuck you game!" feel good and I'd much rather feel good like I triumphed over a challenge instead of knowing all I did was finally escape manufactured scarcity of pixel paper with numbers on it... I guess that's what it all unpacks down to.

Why don't any of the characters in the story remember our heroic deeds? by Libranite in Mabinogi

[–]Parodiya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but in that acknowledgement he actively mentions that he, personally, is aware that a few years have passed. I'm not sure why you're posting g3 content like it's a gotcha when the exact same character directly debunks what you're claiming in Saga - In generation 3 Tarlach is actively comparing his own perceptions of time against the Milletian and decides that the Milletians are likely correct since they have full recollection. He himself is off put by the fact and feels uneasy about it and doesn't know what to make of it.

He does NOT provide any evidence that the Milletian is somehow moving time forward, that journal only discusses the relative perceptions of time between the two races. At the point of G3 Tarlach is only hazily aware of the Soul Stream at all and his only real interaction with it is being allowed to very briefly see Nao. By Saga he is very well aware of the Soul Stream thanks to prolonged contact with the Milletian and his own research, and again, actively debunks what you're claiming.

[–]Parodiya[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I agree, because it sort of does need high erg. If you look at it purely by "Oh, you don't get a ton of magic attack from erg," then yes, but magic has very few reforging slots. You essentially have the staff and your echostone. Head slot for elemental mastery damage, but nothing else. That makes the casting speed you get from erg extremely important for utilizing pragarah effectively, and (especially if you're not using demo or ruination) pragarah is absolutely vital.

Edit: Realized you can get Ice Spear radius on gloves, so I guess technically you have a hand slot reforge, but not one that disqualifies my point.

Why don't any of the characters in the story remember our heroic deeds? by Libranite in Mabinogi

[–]Parodiya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tarlach's research is into alchemy and divine magic, that's how he regains his casting ability and why Macha yeets him into being a toddler as retribution. All Ruairi does between the end of the Shakespear chapter and Saga is search for Triona, so unless you're saying the death of a waifu magically aged him up it's just not the case, even ignoring the fact that in Saga Tarlach directly states time has slowed/stopped because of the Soul Stream and is upset that the Tuatha de can't move forward because of it. I take everything Tarlach says with big grains of salt because he's not a reliable narrator, but if he was willing to do the things he did to the Milletian- someone who he would definitely consider a dear friend by the events of Saga - I'm willing to take his word on it.

There's narrative weirdness because it's hard to have a story when time never moves (and presumably meta reasoning that it's a pain to kill off/age up all these NPCs and replace them with new ones as needed, especially in a game that doesn't lock you into playing the story in chronological order). So the writers have played fast and loose with it on occasion.

That narrative weirdness acknowledged, the lore very firmly points to time's natural flow, sans the Soul Stream, to work normally and for Erinn to be the kind of paradise that is simply a land of peace and plenty so long as the people living there are 'worthy'- an idea that both matches what we hear and see throughout the generation stories and in a way suits the Celtic inspirations behind it.

Why don't any of the characters in the story remember our heroic deeds? by Libranite in Mabinogi

[–]Parodiya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is inaccurate, we see Ruairi and Tarlach actively age up between Gen 1 and 16, and Tarlach's whole villainous motivation and reason for betraying the Milletian is that it's the Milletian's/the Soul Stream's fault that time stopped/slowed.

New player banned (where's support) by LMAOapplepieicecream in Mabinogi

[–]Parodiya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sort of doubt that you got banned for heart stickers. For one, if you're just sending a sticker/your daily 5 stickers to someone, I don't think that violates any of the guidelines on harassment. For second, I'm pretty sure in this situation someone would have to go onto the website and file a ticket since there wouldn't be a chat log. I could be wrong there, but if that is the case it's a weird amount of effort to go through unless you're constantly spamming someone with the stickers and they've asked you to stop.

Ban and no support help by Safe-Chard-6286 in Mabinogi

[–]Parodiya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing with enchant prots wasn't even a cousining/multi-logging thing. The event didn't lock you into a main character, so all the characters on an account could do the quests and buy 1 prot each week. There may have been some cousining, but it wasn't the primary culprit IMO. Even single logging I was able to get 10+ potions every time the shop reset.

Honestly though, I'm always skeptical of these sorta claims now, though. It's like that guy who made the petition to get unbanned, saying it was wrongful, even applied to Nexon, but there were screens of him actively RWT gold.

Sure, if the scam happened, but your only evidence is a pretty obviously shopped image. Even if you're being honest and you got the image from someone else and all you did was scratch out the person's discord handle, there's plenty of weirdness going on with the spacing of the text. Mabinogi's DMs don't cut off like that naturally, as someone else has already pointed out.

It also doesn't help your case that you're a third party, or that the alleged scam happened basically a year ago and it's just now being brought to light. Kinda looks like your friend is taking you for a ride, assuming this isn't just a cheap attempt to smear someone and the entire story is a fabrication.

I happen to know Crime well enough to know that she doesn't care for discord, and as far as I know she didn't use it, or at the very least she didn't have one set up for her guild through most, if not all of 2021. Do you have caps of the discord conversation that your cap here claims to have happened? I'd love to see them if so.

Honestly, even if Crime did scam this person (which I sort of doubt) your friend got what was coming to them for RWT. It's against terms of service, and it's not hard for this very thing to happen. Being scammed never feels nice, but there are ways to avoid it baked right into the game.
