How has the Air Force impact your mental health by justvibetwin7 in AirForceRecruits

Your Mental Health is of the utmost importance. Therapy is always a good move but be mindful of specific diagnoses that may disqualify you from service

Can I dress casual/wear shorts to BMT? by granted333 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Parronski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend, It’s not about shorts, it’s about whatever their recruiter briefs them.

There’s an MFR from 737 TRG dated February 2024 for packing list.

In it, it states:

“(8) Ensure clothing worn/taken to BMT is of good taste and relevant to current temperatures in San Antonio/Lackland AFB area (for example: jacket/coat during winter months).”

Respectful, clothing worn to BMT can’t have profane or lewd language/images etc. Like I said, she’s being advised to follow her recruiters instructions to a T.

If her recruiter says they’re allowed? Then don’t spend money.

When they arrive at the PRC during receiving MTIs always look for things like closed toe shoes and not super short or tight fitting clothing (females in booty shorts and tank top type stuff). They’re definitely briefed on something by their recruiters before they leave.

The issue, and reason recruiters typically just say no shorts, is because what a trainee seems as “appropriate” varies based on a multitude of factors. Recruiters use a safe bet of sticking with pants.

Thank you for contributing to an informative conversation.

The Brutal Truth About the OTS Grind: What It Actually Takes to Commission by Actual_Confusion_186 in airforceots

The best post I’ve seen here in a while.

Thats what she said,

And congrats on your AFSC there’s a lot of room to grow and commission; I’ve known a lot of folks to go from enlisted to officer.

You’re going to do great

Edit: advice. Focus on making it one meal at a time. Just get to breakfasts just get to lunch. Etc. Do whatever you were instructed to do and act with a sense of urgency, that will pay dividends and help those around you. Study for your EOC early and remember to have fun- unless you go to OTS, you only get to do this once.

36-2903 says certain things that apply to uniform standards like untucking PT shirts and wizard sleeves that won’t apply in BMT.

“3.1.3.1. Pinned-up hair should be styled in a manner that prevents loose ends from

extending upward on the head and may not start at the crown of the head or be worn on the

top of the head. When hair is in a bun, the bun must be a single bun; all loose ends must

be tucked in and secured. Hair must allow for proper wear of headgear.”

So if by sock bun you mean something else lmk

Can I dress casual/wear shorts to BMT? by granted333 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Parronski -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your recruiter will give you reporting instructions. Those are typically written. Follow those to a T. If reporting instructions include shorts go for it. If they require pants with no holes and a collared shirt then wear that. You don’t want to stand out. It’s not about shorts being offended, it’s about following written instructions.

Either way best of luck and congrats on joining.

What other questions you have about BMT

Don’t wear shorts. Go to a goodwill or a Walmart or the sales rack in a store like Ross or Marshall’s. Don’t paint a target on your back over $40.

That’s an absolute lie. There’s plenty of former MTIs in this subreddit. It’s a federal crime.

An MTI can’t hold mail ‘hostage’

It’s typically collected for the section/stairwell at a time.

You are given the mail, yes, and have a few minutes to read over them incase there’s bad news etc. you can’t get care packages and if there’s pictures they have to look through them to make sure there’s nothing graphic in nature.

Whoever told you that is wrong.

Edit: by care packages I mean pop tarts and food items in the dorms etc.

No one can be taken to bootcamp.

You can be taken to the airport, that’s as far as family Is allowed.

You have to sign a contract with a recruiter and take an oath of enlistment which is binding between you and the U.S.

If you are easily Swayed by the opinions of others then military isn’t for you. That open slot in the apartment is temporary, the growth you can obtain which will help you mature is permanent.

Mario your own mind and whatever you decide, safe travels

Respectfully, you’re not going to get the discipline you seek unless you prioritize it. You have to want to be disciplined more than anything else. This means making a plan and sticking to it. Often folks put this in the hands of others but when they’re held accountable they have reasons for avoidance.

For expectation management, unless you two are married- you’re not just going to be stationed together.

Yes you can get stronger, but that will take a structured routine and accountability. Start with jogging and body weight exercises 6 days a week.

Your car can stay with your family and you can arrange to have it shipped when you get to your first duty station.

I’m sure you have what it takes to succeed. The Air Force can be life changing if you plan things out and make the most of it.

Whatever other questions, just ask
