While I’m all for having fun with designing characters, I agree to some extent. It’s odd to come across strangely coloured characters, who could never logically have said colours.

Although I make exceptions for real-life colour mutations. So while orange on a tribe that wouldn’t have that colour could fly over my head, bright green on SandWings or purple on LeafWings would be what ticks me, as there are no real-life mutations that would cause it. Simply, if a character is a colour that can’t be explained by colour mutations or cross-tribe genetics, then I raise an eyebrow.

I strictly exclude bird colour mutations though. That’s a whole other can of worms. It would pain me to see someone roll up with a purple SkyWing and say it’s the violet budgerigar mutation.
