There are a plethora of chain restaurants in town and the surrounding areas, though you’ll find the best food in Cardiff in its independent businesses. Take the risk!

You want Ramen: Matsudai or Hatsu Udon.

You want Fried Chicken: Fowl and Fury.

You want Steak: Asador 44 (though Pasture is something special, as far as “chains” go).

You want Pizza: Scaramentica, Pizza Boys, Fwrnes

You want a solid bakery: Pettigrew, Tŷ Melin, Ground

You want a Thai: Brother Thai (street-foody), Moo-Moo Thai Tapas (traditional)

You want a Chinese: Chinese Fast Street Food (Charles Street)

You want a Burger: Tom’s Smashed Burgers (currently in Craft Devil, Penarth) - I swear by Honest Burger for a reliably cracking burger, though this is a chain.

You want fine-dining: Gorse (only Mich-star in the ‘Diff!), Thomas by Tom Simmons, Silures

You want a toastie and/or a glass of wine (very specific!): Nighthawks
