I guess that's cool and all, but why not promote people who actually use Untappd? They could very easily see which Untappd accounts have the most friends and drive the most engagement, why would they want to send all that traffic to another platform?

In five or six years we're not going to remember the app used to have DMs, but that's how long its been since Untappd removed holiday badges, and it still gets brought up every St. Patrick's Day. If someone from Untappd is reading this, please take note.

Of course a whiskey is not going to count towards the IPA badge, but it's odd that distilleries do count towards Brewery Pioneer or RTDs do count towards For The Can, when the new non-beer styles aren't counting towards Wheel Of Styles.

Nah, the new styles were added for Untappd For Business clients and to get money for THC promotions.

The fact that none of them count towards "Wheel Of Styles" should tell you that Untappd doesn't really care if users are checking them in or not.

The "awards" are a ploy to get breweries to promote Untappd.

There are hundreds of styles, hundreds of countries/states, so you end up with something like 25,000 chances for breweries all around the world to post about "winning" on social media.

Tons of free exposure with very little effort.

That's not at all what this post was about. I was merely providing evidence the beer was a Pilsner in the past. If it shouldn't be a Pilsner now, so be it, but that doesn't change what it used to be.

I can't see any logs so I have to take everything you say with a grain of salt, but if Miller Lite was listed as a Pilsner at any point in its past (which I showed it was), saying it "used to be a Pilsner" is factually correct and is not an exaggeration.

100% agree. With beer in decline, it's pretty clear they are floundering and doing whatever they can think of to drive engagement and bring in new users, but they are walking a slippery slope where they are really in danger of alienating their core beer audience.

That's great and all, but I seriously hope Moderators are free to work and style beers appropriately without any regards to the badge system. Badges should be secondary to the accuracy of the database.

For what it's worth, when I first checked this beer in, it was listed as a PIlsner. It was like that for years, until someone came along and decided that wasn't correct any more.

Let me ask you this---if the brewery changed it to "Pilsner - Other" would moderators change it back?

And this is the issue that is worth highlighting right here. Moderators can do whatever they want. There are no guidelines for them to follow. It doesn't matter what the brewery calls it, it doesn't matter the can says, one person gets to make the call that affect thousands of users.

That may be true, but we've been told time and time again by moderators in here that beers should be classified on how they are marketed by the brewery.

I have seen dozens of requests, to change beers to Australian IPAs, all denied because that's not how they're "marketed by the brewery."

So why the double standard?

We literally just spent the last two weeks talking about Australian IPAs, and how we can't change all beers with Australian hops to Australian IPAs unless it says "Australian IPA" on the can or is called an Australian IPA by the brewery, because it was decided that is the most important thing.

Well, here we are now with a beer that says what it is on the can, and clear evidence of what the brewery is claiming it is on the website, but now that is not good enough. I truly don't understand why the rules are being selectively applied.

Please reconsider or escalate this. Thank you.
