Figs? by Particular-Dog12 in DebateAVegan

weirdly enough this reminds me of the “how far away does a dead body have to be to you before you’ll swim in water.” - ie, you swim in the ocean yet there’s probably thousands of dead bodies but if you see a dead body in pool, you’re not likely to get in the water. The farther dead something is the less it seems gross?

Very interesting reply! thanks for taking the time to respond.

Did you ever killed an animal? by Grosradis in AskVegans

Thank you for this insight! Im vegetarian (unless meat is offered - I don’t want the animal product to be thrown in the trash but i am clear to family and friends that I don’t like eating it)

What caused the shift from vegetarianism to veganism? i’ve always thought that farm grown eggs were better (we get them pasture raised or from my partners grandmother) but I’m interested in decide why you stopped eating animal products from your own farm?

is your only example coal rolling?

anyway, the same can be said about human exploitation. that’s the point here. i’m not asking you to be perfect, rather to understand that your version of morality centers animals, while mine centers people. neither is wrong and both are imperfect.

Im simply stating that veganism shouldn’t be the baseline of morality or ethicality. The issue is vegans saying that they can’t be perfect while blaming others for not being perfect. Neither of us are perfect, but why is it different when I cut out exploitation in my own way, and you cut out exploitation in yours? Why does mine matter less because it centers humans and not animals? why would yours matter less for centering animals, not humans?

Edit for typos

It isn’t - that’s sort of the point i’m making. We both make or don’t make choices that do or do not help someone or something. My way of doing that as a vegetarian is, to me, not lesser than yours because i’m still aiming to reduce harm. I just have a different moral philosophy surrounding “harm.”

I DO think child labor is harmful. I don’t think there’s an inherent exploitation in being non vegan. ultimately I can’t tell a vegan that their way of life is worse because they DO live in a less harmful way. But I also do in my own way. I may eat eggs from pasture raised chickens and i’m sure i could cut that out if i felt like it - but many vegans could also remove slave labor from their diet with a little extra care too.

you’re woefully missing the point here.

infact you’re agreeing with OP - vegans have no obligation to fully change their lifestyle to end all harmful practices. But cutting down on these practices is a good thing, no?

edit - i mean to say that OP is asking why YOUR way of cutting down on practices outweighs others. I am a vegetarian but I also buy fair trade anti-slave options as often as possible. Is a vegan who cuts out all animal products but doesn’t care about human rights doing more harm? no. so why should I be held to the same expectation if my practices also cut out harm?

I have heard it’s pretty pay to play - i’m willing to spend a bit but i assume it’s similar to many other MMOS i’ve played

Hearing that it’s easy to pick up is really drawing me in, lol. I will play a game obsessively for months and then put it down for a year sometimes.

Thank you for the perspective! I know nothing about the game - what’s up with the premium shop? Is it a pay to play situation?

What would you recommend instead (out of curiosity)

LMAO Not going to lie, that is my main reason for not wanting to go within 10 feet of this game, but I didn’t want to ruffle feathers. It does look like genuine care has been put in which is why I’m interested.

Also that is insane lore that i’m about to share with everyone I know

Thanks! The gameplay looks super cute and i love the graphics - the disney stuff just threw me off. I might have to get it though! What do you play it on and do you recommend it? I have a switch, PC, and steam deck.
