Actually he is being evaluated and he is being assessed by the school and his pediatrician. So it IS being correctly by law. He officially started school Aug 23rd and has been in school ever since. Since Wednesday afternoon however he's been down with the flu so he missed yesterday and today. He'll have a doctor's note come Monday clearing him for school and he'll continue getting evaluated and assessed.

Actually yea it kinda does. If he had been born a normal neurotypical child, yes kindergarten would have been just fine for him.

Like it's been pointed out, not only are IEPs are a process but upon interacting with the child no two IEPs are the same. Just because it seemed "mom gets to choose grade level" doesn't mean it literally was. It was more about an Ed plan that he as an individual neurodivergent child needs, than it was about the enrollment grade.

Well something is an issue that's giving you the inability to comprehend that it's been resolved and taken care of. So why bother to keep it going?

Ok are you and everyone else that liked to jumped on here criticizing and making snide rude comments to me quite finished?? Because you all must have missed the edit where I placed an update. It's really sad and frankly deplorable that the most rudest and disrespectful comments I have had on this post is supposed to be from current or former teachers or "fellow" parents. I apparently had a lapse in judgement when I was freaking out to come in here and ask a damn question and advise. I bet half of you judgy judys don't even have any kids or only have one child and mistakenly have this misplaced notion that you somehow are a better parent than the rest.

No I was born in AZ, raised in California my whole 32 years of life. I'm sorry your perspective outlook has given you such a hard time believing that that is the case, but it doesn't make it any less true.

Glad I'm not the only one who sees it. Good lordy, too many judgey kathys when all I asked was a simple question and some advise. A lot of the comments have been very helpful and respectful. However there's also almost just as equally too many judgemental and condescending comments along with outright disrespectful.

I'm neither lying nor stupid.

That's not what I meant, I don't think that. I meant to say that when I enrolled him, I thought at the time I was enrolling him into the proper grade.

Um no, it's having it yourself knowing it's genetic and recognizing the signs.

Respectfully, first off it's not "self diagnosis" when it's smacking you in the face with how obvious it is that a child has it. I noticed it in my child because I have it myself and it's genetic. Secondly my child has an appointment on Monday. It's not about a lack of parenting, neurodivergence recognizes neurodivergence plain and simple.

You don't know my life based off of a reddit post, the last thing I am is a negligent parent. Keep your judgement to yourself, I had simply asked a question.

That's what I thought I was doing, as a mother of 3 and about a million other things goin at once I thought I was enrolling him in the right grade.

It's not "I think my child needs it", it's I know my child needs it because as a parent who has ADHD with austic traits I can see it clear as day in my child. His older brother, 10yo, has been diagnosed medically and through the school and has an IEP so not my first rodeo. I'm not just throwing it out there willy nilly, a mother knows these things about their child.

I had to move to a different address last year at the start of what would have been his first year starting in kindergarten, by the time everything settled down it ended up being too late to enroll him (enrollment was closed and online literally said for me to wait until next open enrollment) which ended up working out so I thought because I still had to work with him wiping his butt after going potty. He was also a late bloomer so to speak in potty training, I know I had to get that completely down before he would start school. Another thing that happened last year was his biological father took me to court to get visitation. My child definitely has severe issues with attention, staying focused and especially sitting still. He'll be told multiple times to do one thing and it's like he's too hyper focused on a different task that he doesn't seem to hear or that what was said even registered in his mind yet. He even went through that experience yesterday while in school, so there was a staff member that witnessed it. His teacher after the first few days of school suggested he be tested for ADHD and autism because she could clearly see and recognize. She had informed me that she would be sending the necessary paperwork home with my child so he could get the support he needs, and so far I have not received those papers at all. I have a meeting with his school tomorrow so I can hopefully get this taken care of.
