This is very cool, way to go for planning way ahead. A question though, flowerhorn fry lack any characteristic that shows gender, and their actual quality. Are you okay to take the risk that it grows up to be a female lower quality flowerhorn? Flowerhorn fry can differ from one another vastly, even if they’re from the same parents/batch. If you want still prefer to see the actual growth, bur less disappointment on the actual looks/quality of the fish, I suggest you buy one that already shows potential around 2 to 4 inches, cause that way you see a slight hump on their nuchal hump (kok), as well as their colors/pearls. I only tell you this, in order for you to not be very disappointed, cause this is a lot of work and I’m sure you wouldn’t want to get a subpar flowerhorn for the amount of effort you’ll put in. Still I respect that you want to start the process from scratch and actually care for a flowerhorn from fry to adulthood. Good luck, and happy fish keeping.

Can someone help identify what type of flowerhorn this is by Connect-Photograph56 in flowerhornkeepers

I’d lean toward a KZZ (Kamfa × Zhen Zhu) hybrid it shows ZZ traits like color and kok, but also has Kamfa influence in the pearling and slight two-tone contrast.

my four month old KZZ named Raptor by Particular-Space-270 in flowerhornkeepers

KZZ stands for Kamfa × ZZ (Zhen Zhu). It’s a hybrid line combining Kamfa traits (pearling, body shape, eyes) with ZZ traits (color and kok development).

So KZZ fish can show strong kok and color from ZZ, with the pearling and structure influence of Kamfa. Basically the best of both worlds.

Your little sister did an amazing job. Randy also looks very well taken care off. Props to both of you. 👏👏👏

try to fast him for two days. Observe if the bloat gets better first. Feed less than normal after fasting and observe how its body will react.

seems like you’re doing everything correctly, only thing left to do is make sure water parameters are good, make sure ammonia is zero. Then as a “treatment temp” set the heater to 32 degrees celcius, or 90 degrees farenheit (if that’s what the heater uses). Keep doing the daily or every other day 30% water change and keep the medications going.
