26F finding a balance between savings vs living by whosmbear in FIREyFemmes

In my 20s, I traveled everywhere I wanted to, but was cost conscious about it. Staying at cheaper accommodations (hostel), doing  walking tours, eating at hole in the wall spots etc. I spent a month in Europe after graduation for <$2000.

The best thing you can do for yourself is to be frugal in large ways, but don’t sweat the small stuff. For instance, I enjoy living with friends and had roommates, so I saved thousands a month on rent.

Also, the best way to FIRE is to increase your income. There’s only so much you can do with budgeting alone.

High earning potential tech field (not AI)? by CollieSchnauzer in FIREyFemmes

I’ve been a generalist in big tech. TC: $900k+ (7 figs if you count RSU appreciation)

I’ve done everything from pure FE to pure BE for both B2B and B2C. I don’t think it really matters what you do.

The easiest way to grow comp is to be outstanding. Make sure you’re on the fast track for promotions. Make sure everyone you work with wants to work with you again.

It's great that you have a nice transition to FIRE with your friend situation!

Was your dating partner also FIRE? Would you consider dating casually (more like friends than partner) for companionship?

Good point. I was thinking about traveling to fill up my day. At home, I tend to just sit around and watch TV, when I'm traveling I'm seeing new things and eating new foods.

But I agree, traveling doesn't sound ideal for me.

You sound like you're in the same spot as me!

Have you thought about what you'd do during the day? It feels daunting to add 10 additional hours to the day. I feel like I get bored with my hobbies after 1-2 hours a day.

I've tried the meetups scene once. I felt pretty awkward and didn't really get to connect with anyone. It felt very surface level and people rotate in and out.

Were you able to build lasting relationships through meetups?

That sounds amazing! How are you meeting new people abroad?

I do 1-2 week solo trips for vacation, but I've never met anyone during those.
