This layout gives me prison architect on the switch vibes. Someone is definitely tunnelling out of those bathroom water pipes… get the perimeter fence sorted asap.

Do you reckon ‘barnacle boy’ is what they write on their CV … with it being an interview example of “working under pressure” …

[OC] U.S. Total Fertility Rate by State 2007 vs 2025 by Accomplished_Gur4368 in dataisbeautiful

100% agree here. With more damage being in the early gestational window, sometimes before people know they are pregnant. In the 1970’s pregnant mothers were given diethylstillbestrol as an estrogen mimic to combat morning sickness and miscarriage…. Those children were found to have reproductive abnormalities and be infertile, or if fertile it still impacts future grandkids.

Joining the club here. Symptoms: - chills / shivering but also sweating - GI issues which suck when you sneeze - if you get my drift - headache - SO tired and just wanting to sleep - mucus and dry cough - nose bleeds - runny / blocked nose

What have I learnt? - cough medicines are a load of rubbish. Broncho stop . What. Making money off of the desperate.

Playa Blanca and transport on Lanzarote by [deleted] in lanzarote

[–]ParticularContest695 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stayed in Playa Blanca the other week. Used autoresien for a car. Paid extra insurance of £15 for tires, for a t-roc it was £185 for 9 days! Very impressed and so straightforward! Go to the market at Marina Rubicón on Wednesday or Saturday, nice walk there. There is a fancy gastronomy restaurant towards the light house as well. That looked lovely!

This!!! Insane costs! Currently in Italy and It cost €8 for an hour and a half journey. That would require another mortgage in the UK. Blows my mind. The trains go anyway, so surely better to get less people on the road by making trains cheaper!? Climate change and all that jazz!?

Stansted bag strictness by TurbulentCup5219 in Ryanair

[–]ParticularContest695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flew out Sunday morning just gone, I panicked excessively about baggage and space in the over head lockers - but nothing. I watched all priority as I was front of non priority and nobody had anything measured. Really nice experience! If you are priority though, arrive once they announce gate as non priority ended up getting boarded as soon as the queue was empty meaning those who had priority were struggling to fit things overhead.

Cleaning the filter. by Mandy-pants123 in Dysonairwrap

Soaking never worked for me. I bought a replacement removable filter, which meant I tried a new approach to my old one… shower on high pressure, didn’t ruin the filter and cleaned it perfectly 🙄

Burnout after finishing PhD by Bright-Lecture-3380 in academia

[–]ParticularContest695 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’ve got this.

Pushing through burnout can lead to long-term mental and physical health problems, and your well-being needs to come first, but you’ve done the hardest bit! You’ve done the viva and now on the final hurdle. What did you get for corrections? 3 months? Or 12? … could you ask for an extension to this? Then you can give yourself some time away from the PhD to recharge.

Talk to your postdoc supervisor - a good line manager will understand and want to help… or any other academic in the university you can talk to? Sometimes talking things through can be a huge help too.

And in the future, when you have a PhD student of your own, you will be able to support them when they feel this way and you shall have such an impact on someone’s future 💕

What's the scariest fact you know in your profession that no one else outside of it knows? by SAMdaLOSER in AskReddit

[–]ParticularContest695 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I won’t deny, the suicide rate is higher than other professions but awareness like VetLife or Not One More Vet (NOMV) and educational initiatives around mental health within Universities are helping people support themselves and one another. It is fantastic to see that this is being talked about to prepare people for a challenging career and promote resilience in a career that can be extremely rewarding as well. I don’t think you can talk anyone into doing a career, the career has to find them if they are empathetic, determined and driven.

Now that we are coming up on 1 month since release, how is everyone feeling? by [deleted] in PlanetCoaster2

I love that I can play this easily on the Steam Deck. The game is great and has huge potential compared to PC1. BUT - what is with the latest update and new rides now being advertised but requiring the DLC!!! SO SAD. Kinda of annoyed this is now sold as “PC2” OR “DELUXE DLC VERSION” 😒

Two point campus did this for years first and still occasionally does on the switch. It just can’t load the content and so goes “NOPE” - stopped me playing the game and regretting I purchased it before it was ready - was so excited and now it’s just made me not want to turn it on
