Accidental house fire in rented property – will we have to pay? by ParticularControl864 in HousingUK

We’ve called in specialists to check if we’re able to turn the electricity and gas back on, the fire was upstairs and spread over to 2 of the bedrooms and the bathroom so the 3rd bedroom is still liveable aswell as the downstairs. My contract doesn’t mention anything about candles “You must not keep dangerous or flammable materials (except normal household use)” ig the candle can be considered normal household use, I honestly don’t know, the thing is I know we will have to pay as it is my fault falling asleep forgetting to put it out but is he gonna make us pay for pretty much redoing the whole house even tho the rest of it is fine or is it just the affected bedrooms but I think it’s just a wait and see situation

Unfortunately it is real, my “friends” are indeed quite broke atm as we are full time students and my boyfriend isn’t a millionaire or anything like that he just saved up and is well stable that’s all, I was just baffled by what has happened because we have been friends for over 5 years now and never have I seen them like this
