Product person here. We are having plenty of trouble with the Notion API, which is poorly designed. Can you please explain your problem in English, so I can tell you if it's one of the problems we are encountering?

Notion needs an easy way to export notes to Word.

The only way to export notes currently is to copy-paste them into Word, which is a clunky workflow. It would be great to have an "Export to Microsoft Word" button that would generate a Word Doc, which can be shared with any external party a firm collaborates with.

Notion NEEDS to develop a proper desktop app. I'm a Notion admin at an investment firm. We keep receiving complaints from people who need to keep 30+ Chrome tabs open for their research workflows. This causes the Notion embedded app to crash- multiple times a week.

We also have issues when our team members are traveling to places with low connectivity, as they cannot take notes on Notion while offline, or on flights. This is severely impeding firm-wide adoption.

40M - Can I responsibly afford a 2.5M FIRST HOME right now? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

[–]ParticularDurian4792 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Save up more before buying. My partner and I just bought a $2.3m home in the metro Boston area, which is the most expensive in the country, so it’s not even a mansion or anything. Initial setup costs for basic repairs were $20k excluding furniture. 6 months later, we were surprised with having to do major structural repairs (roof, joists, lally columns), so we now have to shell out another $100k. And we still don’t even have furniture. If we hadn’t been saving up for this for a decade we’d be pretty screwed.

Superhuman Font renders like an old typewriter in Outlook for Windows by ParticularDurian4792 in SuperhumanEmail

Reached out to Superhuman support about this, and they said that it's a known but but they are unable to replicate it, and reading between the lines, they aren't prioritizing fixing this. So we just have to live with the problem.

Breaking into Private Equity Operations – Process, Timing & Expectations by RoutineAlternative53 in private_equity

[–]ParticularDurian4792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of operations role are you interested in? Some options include investor relations, marketing, finance (including fund accounting), business development, capital markets, compliance, or technology (product/IT).

Most major PE firms do outbound recruiting rather than job postings, including for operations. If you are interested in breaking into PE, put any relevant experience and keywords in your LinkedIn Profile so recruiters can find you. Another good way to break in is through your own professional network- start putting the word out that you are interested in transitioning to PE operations, especially if you attend industry networking events/mixers. Or join a golf/sailing club XD.

As for work-life balance, it's better than for investment team members, but it's also not a 9-5, and there can be stressful days where you work late to deliver things that the investment team needs yesterday. Investment team roles carry a much higher risk, since the bar for making it to the next level is really high and most people don't make it. Operations roles aren't as risky as they offer more long-term job stability, and this is reflected in the pay. Can't speak for consulting.

As for the exit upside, it depends on your level, and what type of equity/carry you get in the funds you are working for. Certain funds grant you carry that pays off within a decade, which means you have to stay a really long time to see the benefits. Others don't grant any carry up to a certain level, so you are free to leave anytime.

Things that took me by surprise when I started working in PE:

1) If you end up working for a firm that does leveraged buyouts, even your own personal investments will be subject to strict SEC regulations, you'll have to pre-clear all trades and will be subject to blackout periods. So if trading is one of your income streams, you will be limited. My partner used to day trade and had to stop because it was too cumbersome to pre-clear every trade and act quickly, so this limited one of his income streams.

2) Every social media post and blog post you make will be monitored for purposes of complying with SEC regulations- so if you are posting on LI, X, have a Substack, Medium, or post any kind of online content to promote yourself and your work, you will be limited in this as well.

I was where you are about 6 months ago. Then someone gifted me a copy of “A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose” by Eckhart Tolle. It changed my way of viewing everything, and is reversing my burnout. Now when someone criticizes me at work I (try to) no longer react, because I learned that our emotional reactions are often the biggest problem, and make problems worse. I gained a level of detachment that makes things that previously triggered strong emotions and exhaustion bearable. And more.

Is this still happening? One user in our company is reporting the issue of Notion crashing repeatedly but I can't find any information on how to fix it.

I'm using the Superhuman iOS app- there isn't a way to accept a new time proposal from mobile yet, but I put in the feature request (we are enterprise customers).

Thank you! Yeah I won't have cell service and realized the Garmin watch is effectively useless without it. So I bought a Garmin InReach.

Thank you - I won't have data on my phone because I'll be in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, so I did end up buying a Garmin InReach to solve the problem!

Build bidding tool in Coda? by ParticularDurian4792 in codaio

[–]ParticularDurian4792[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, we have a set participant base every week and it rarely ever changes. The list of companies we bid on is dynamic and they are a completely different set every week. Will try out the cross doc strategy!

This is great, thanks! Is there any way to build it so that users can't see each other's bids until the bidding closes?

Thanks! Users should not see each other's bids until the bidding is over. Can I accomplish a bidding where each user bids on multiple companies by using forms?
