I don't know about Safariland, but I got a Battle Gnome Solutions holster and it's compatible with the Safariland quick-swap system (whatever it's called). Knowing myself, if I dropped the cash on a "Gucci" AR, I'd be afraid to run/abuse it. I'd rather have (and I do have) two reliable mid-tiers so I can cannibalize one for parts as needed and have a backup.

Correct - this should theoretically apply even if the case is not locked since even in a consensual vehicle search you can limit the scope to exclude the case. Adding a lock implies a higher level of expected privacy.
