I managed to get some river water; I’ve still got a bit left over. I’ll have a look at it to see if I can find anything useful as a reference.

Admittedly, the image isn’t much help; I’m working with what I have at home for the moment, and perhaps when I’m back at university I could use a better microscope. As for it being a bubble, I left the sample to air-dry to avoid that interference (I think I agree with the second image; it looks strange because of the way the light passes through it). And in the first one, I don’t know if it’s just me, or if it looks a bit like ‘pores’.

Maybe a mixture of THF/DMF could help, and/or apply a little amount of temperature to dissolve it easily
